When you’re stripping off the layers this summer under the unforgiving July sun, it’s also smart to limit the layers of makeup on your skin. Unless you’re staying in an air conditioned bubble all season (which sounds pretty nice right about now), chances are sweat and grease are already clogging your pores, making you prone to unwelcome blemishes. As with any product, the best choice for you depends on your skin tone. Whether you have Asian skin that thirsts for oily-skin approved lightweight coverage, dark skin that’s prone to breakouts or ashy dry spots, fair skin that’s needs some major SPF to combat signs of aging, or olive skin with green and gold undertones, we did the leg work to find the best options for you.

Fair Skin

Fair skin usually has pink undertones, so look for a BB cream that helps to counteract redness. Also, remember to search for product with an extra boost of broad spectrum sun protection, as fair skin is most susceptible to sun damage and subsequent signs of aging.

Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector B.B. Cream in Light/Medium- A great choice for dry skin, this BB is extra moisturizing, without weighing down your skin.

L’Oréal Visible Lift CC Cream in Light- This new product is infused with Vitamin C and Calcium for age correction.

Smashbox Camera Ready CC Cream in Light- This CC offers the coverage of a foundation with the consistency of a tinted moisturizer.

Light Skin

Many light skinned gals such as Asians tend to produce more oil. If your light skin is on the oilier side, opt for a super lightweight BB that provides all-day coverage and minimizes shine. Also consider CC creams, as they tend to offer a more matte finish that’s great for oily skin.

Amarté Natural Finish BB Cream Natural Tint- This Korean BB Cream softens and smooths with a nice natural finish.

Amorepacific Color Control Cushion Compact in 104- CC Cream as a liquid compact? Believe it. This new product boasts complete coverage and portability with the texture of water.

Lancôme Bienfat Teinté BB Cream SPF 30 in Sand- This BB provides essential hydration to keep skin nourished all day with no greasy residue.

Medium Skin

For medium colorings, look for products to work with your skin undertones. If you have olive skin, your undertones are yellow and green—just like an olive (they’re clever). For combination skin, or uneven skin tone, go for a more full coverage BB or CC cream that will conceal and mattify throughout the day.

MAC Prep + Prime BB Beauty Balm SPF 35 in Medium Plus- A light coverage option with a huge variety of shades to choose from.

Dark Skin

Though dark skin gals are not as vulnerable to obvious signs of sun damage (like those sunburns fair ladies need to beware of), sun exposure can still cause spots or unevenness on skin. Make sure always to choose a BB or CC cream with SPF.
