Swaag. It  is a socially driven mobile community focused on fashion and lifestyle photos. Its where people share and view photos on your iPhone from your friends and the community. Yes we know there are tons of apps out there where you can share photos. Instagram and Facebook being two that are leading the pack with photo sharing. But they aren’t nearly as creative nor provide the same benefits for retailers and the fashion industry like Swaag. It can. The beauty of fashion is that its individual. Part of it is what you see on the runway and the bigger part is what you see in reality. The garments being worn on the street. Swaag. It offers users the chance to share their individuality globally.  When I met Swaag. It‘s CEO Peter Chun I realized that this isn’t just an app that you post photos like other social platforms. On Swaag. It you create trends, battle each other, and even categorize what you view as style. What caught my eye the most was the ability to tag and share the brands that you are wearing. I cant tell you how many times I’ve asked the question, “Who designed that?” BOF recently published an article titled The Store is Everywhere. It discuss how technology is getting to the point where you can see someone walking down the street and if you liked what they have on you could purchase it right there. You only had to snap a photo of the item with your smartphone or use Google Glass and that’s it. No stopping them, no stores, no standing in line. Swaag.It is already leading us to that reality and is why we just had to have them at the Fashion 360 Conference. Here is a sample of what attendees can expect to learn at the conference.  District Fete: Just how important is technology to the fashion industry? Swaag. It: Technology is incredibly important to the fashion industry for a lot of reasons. There are a lot of practical use cases where that benefits can be realized, across merchandising, inventory, the supply chain, etc. Areas in particular that I find interesting are: crowd sourcing, demand prediction and brand to consumer engagement (through photos and conversation.) Never has the relationship between a brand and their consumer been more important and engaging than now. District Fete: How strong is the need for people to share what it is they are wearing socially? Swaag. It: We’re in a state where curation of content and expressing that content is at an all time high – in frequency and level of comfort. As the comfort level for Gen X increases, Gen Y and Z for the most part have been born on the web where curation is second nature. So the need is less of question vs. the behavior already exists. The bigger question revolves around the inherent value for sharing and why people choose certain channels over others. Distrct Fete: What does the future of Swaag It look like? Is there a possibility for people to order items they see on your app? Swaag. It: E-Commerce definitely has a place in our future. It’s something we’ve dabbled with already and will continue to explore it. Creating a commerce experience isn’t tricky, it’s how it’s done that will make it succeed and or fail. We have a very unique audience, a pretty decent product experience and alot of engagement. Our future will revolve around those 3 pillars; making each one great. Ecommerce is one of the way to do that. District Fete: Are you amazed at the different types of fashion from dapper to vintage to sneakerhead that pop up on your app? Swaag. It: Definitely. One of the foundational pieces we built the app around was to be a place of expression. What somebody wears is a major form of expression. It goes far beyond the items and brands themselves. The connectivity of those items and brands ultimately drive style right? So to see people pushing the bar on this is amazing, seeing how it’s embraced by the community is even more amazing. Here is a video on how Swaag. It is changing how we see fashion.
