A Fun & Relaxed Blue Wedding

A Fun & Relaxed Blue Wedding

via

Andy and Vicky had the type of relaxed fun wedding which makes you wish you were a guest.

They held their wedding at CastleGate Centre, Newcastle which provided the perfect backdrop for the atmosphere of their day. Andy and Vicky focused on including their personalities and went for a subtle and pretty blue colour scheme. With much of their day thoughtfully home made by their loved ones, they also decided on a hog roast and Ceilidh for the evening. Perfect.

Thanks so much to the brilliant Sarah-Jane Ethan and Matt Ethan for sharing their photographs with us today.

The Proposal… we got engaged on the Quayside at Newcastle on 28.8.12. Andy had planned to propose later that week but the ring arrived early so he proposed that day…right before we were off to the cinema to watch the Dark Knight Rises!

The Vision for the Day… To be honest I just wanted to marry Andy, nothing else was really important. I wanted the day to be relaxed and non-traditional to match our personalities and we wanted to invite lots of our family and friends.

The Planning Process… I actually get quite stressed with co-ordination but Andy loves planning so we made the decisions together then he actually booked everything and then I did the last minute touches.

Budget… we were working to a budget but it wasn’t too hard as we hunted around for good deals, hired and borrowed things and Andy Haggled most of our supplies down by 10%!

The Venue… We used the CastleGate Centre which is an old Tram depot that our church have converted. It still has all the steal works, balconies, high ceilings and balconies and is huge so it was prefect for everything we wanted to do.

The Dress + Accessories… I actually only went to one shop and bought the third dress I tried on. I liked it because it didn’t seem traditional or over-the top. I was understated and just felt like me!

Groom’s Attire… we got Andy’s suit from Slaters.

Beautiful Bridesmaids… We got the bridesmaid dresses from Debehams in Kent. We waited for the sale but by then they had sold out of the right sizes so we drove all the way to Folkstone but they didn’t have the right colour! So in the end Andy and my Dad drove to Ashford to get them but I think it was good bonding for them!

The Flowers… A friend bought us the flowers from M&S as a wedding gift.

The Cake… Another friend made our cake. I collected lots of pictures of cakes form pininterest and sent them to her but it was a bit confusing for her as they were all completely different! she asked me to narrow it down so I said “funky”, “flowers” and “blue” to match the bridesmaids.

Your Photographer… We choose Matt and Sarah-jane Ethan www.mattethan.co.uk, www.sarahjaneethan.co.uk and we would recommend them without hesitation! They met with us for coffee, did a pre-wedding shoot and made sure we felt relaxed and natural in front of the camera. We loved their natural style, how they tell the story of the day and their friendly personalities. They really helped to make a relaxed atmosphere on the day. Plus we love all the sneaky shots they take of people unawares laughing and talking.

The Details + Decor… I was particularly happy with our paper heart confetti. We bought a cuter form ebay and then old books from a charity shop and cut heart confetti from them for the tables (even though my Mum started cutting them the wrong way which was funny). We bought lanterns from ebay and borrowed even bigger lanterns as centre pieces. we bought Bamboo plates and bowls, we hired lots of bunting and had a ceilidh and Hog roast in the evening. We thought a Ceilidh would idea as often at disco people don’t get up to dance but in a ceilidh somebody is telling you how to dance so there’s no excuse!

Memorable Moments… We loved the relaxed window after the wedding breakfast when we actually got to chat to many of our guests.

Advice for Other Couples… prioritise a few things that are important to you and then don’t stress about the rest.
