Twitter brought David and Melissa together, and it was love at first tweet. “I quickly developed a crush on him for what he had to say, his interests, and his adorable profile picture. We began tweeting, which progressed to daily conversations,” Melissa explains. “After a few months, I mustered up the courage to ask him out for drinks. He suggested dinner instead. When we finally met in person, it was as though we’d known each other our whole lives and a relationship quickly blossomed.”

Three years later David popped the question. “He asked me to marry him by hacking my website and creating a meme-filled proposal of internet proportions,” says Melissa. “I came home to have my best friend call saying my blog had been hacked. Turns out she was in on it. I frantically pulled it up and found a half-naked David Hasselhoff covered in puppies and the words ‘click here’ on his crotch. I tried to hack back into my site and jumped on the phone with my web hosting company. Dave kept saying, ‘why don’t you just click the button?’ I explained I didn’t want to download a virus – who ever hacked me had to be good! He took the phone from me and calmly clicked the button. All of my favourite memes danced across the screen and a picture of our puppy popped up with the words ‘I can haz hand in marriage?’ It was perfect.”

Three years later, the two planned their special day where they chose to forgo traditions like the garter grab and the bouquet toss. “We wanted the wedding to reflect us and put a fun and modern twist on it when possible,” Melissa explains, noting how much fun it was to choose her wedding dress with David.

As they look back on their wedding, the bride and groom both agree that their favourite part of the day was their first look. “The moment we set eyes on each other, I couldn’t help but swell up in tears. I’ve never felt so lucky in my whole life as I did then,” Melissa shares. It was in that heartwarming, private moment where David gifted his bride-to-be with a book of their first tweets, conversations, and pictures they’ve shared together in the early stages of their relationship through social media.
