Meet the New Boho Brides – Louise and Chris

Louise Loughlin and Chris Howarth Date: 9th August 2014 Location: Kelham Island Museum , Alma Street Sheffield Colour scheme: No definite colour scheme but erring on the side of navy and bright fuchsia. ‘An urban wedding in an industrial setting with a focus on family, friends and a whole load of fun.’

Chris and I met nearly 5 years ago in a bar in Sheffield, The Old House. Now, neither of us can really remember how we began chatting so we like to gloss over that bit, one white russian too many perhaps? but obviously it must have been alright because Chris ‘phoned me the next day and we soon began dating.

The Proposal

Chris proposed in March 2013. The proposal was typically Chris-like; understated and I was left unsure whether it was actually a proposal; but I wouldn’t have had it any other way. We decided to hold off telling people about our engagement until we had a ring, so we headed off the next day convinced we’d find a ring and I’d be wearing it by lunchtime. How little we knew? It had snowed overnight and absolutely nowhere was open. I may have had a little strop. We eventually got inside a jewellers but nothing really stuck out for us so we decided to get one made. Which meant a 5 week wait. A 5 week wait until I could tell my mum I was engaged! I got through this period by having secret pinterest boards and emailing venues – we virtually had the main details of the wedding planned!

The Wedding

Sheffield does really hold a special place in both of our hearts, Chris being a Yorkshire man through and through and me, coming from Liverpool to Uni over 13 years ago and falling under Sheffield’s spell – much like many other graduates! So it was always going to be the case that we would marry in Sheffield. We’re very much city dwellers so we wanted a wedding that would take place in the city but not in a faceless hotel chain, so we opted for Kelham Island Museum that not only showcases Sheffield’s industrial past, but is really close to some really good restaurants and pubs and is a 5 minute walk from our flat. Really we just want a massive party where all our family and friends can have a brilliant time, and dance all night.

We want a local feel to the day and are trying to use local suppliers and vendors as much as we can; we’ve booked all the ‘big’ things; photographer; caterer and hair and make-up ( priorities, right?). I have grand ideas of DIY’ing a lot of wedding but I suspect come next May, I’ll be resorting to Etsy and our creative friends! I’ve not chosen my dress yet,  I have a few ideas in mind of what I like and I’ll probably start dress hunting at the end of the year.

What we’re looking forward to the most is seeing all the people we love most in the world in one room, having fun and celebrating our future with us.
