What to do when you want an outdoor wedding, but don’t want to risk the weather? Danielle and Edward found the perfect solution: “I had always envisioned an outdoor wedding, but throwing an outdoor wedding in August in New York can be risky. The Garrison was the perfect compromise because it truly felt as though the outdoors had come in – one look out the beautiful windows overlooking the Hudson River and we had made our minds up. Coupled with amazing food and the exact style that we were looking for, we knew it was the place for us.”

The groom’s brother and sister designed the stationery, including the ceremony programs.

The signature cocktail was called “The Ginger,” named after the couple’s dog: a Raspberry Rose Collins. There were even coasters printed with the name and a drawing of a beagle.

The tables were simply lovely, decorated with a mix of white hydrangeas in silver julep cups, and white candles in silver candlesticks.

What inspired you when you were planning your wedding?  We drew inspiration from so many different sources, but at the end of the day I knew the way to make it feel perfect was just to choose what we loved and everything would come together. I wanted it to feel like the summer evening that it was, which meant lush flowers, simple but elegant surroundings and refreshing food and drink. I took my time planning and pieced together while I went along and was very happy with the end result.

What was your favorite moment or part of the day?  This sounds so cliché, but my favorite moment of the day was walking back down the aisle with my husband for the first time. Close seconds include seeing my groom for the first time (we did a first look) and the father daughter dance, but really the whole day was amazing from beginning to end. I had never envisioned a big wedding but in retrospect it was one of the best decisions we made. Having the chance to celebrate with so many people that we love was worth all of the time and effort that went into planning.

What was the best advice you received as a bride?  Make sure to spend time alone with your groom after the ceremony. We spent 15 minutes alone before heading into the reception just taking everything in that had already happened. It was also a great opportunity to snag some of the appetizers and a drink! Of course we spent time together at the reception but we had already talked ahead of time and decided that it was important to make sure that we enjoyed ourselves and visited with as many people as possible because we don’t see them every day.

What advice do you have for other brides?  Don’t sweat the small stuff. There are so many expectations, both real and perceived, and I do think that you should try to make as many people happy as possible, but at the same time you have to be realistic about what can be done from both a time and budget perspective.

Do you have any budget tips for other brides?  When we first started planning we prioritized what was the most important and sought those vendors our first. We had an idea of our top limit on these items but wanted to be able to count them into our overall budget first so we knew how much we had to spend on everything else.
