A Vintage Hen Do

A Vintage Hen Do

Having a hen do is the perfect chance to have a little fun and relax with your favourite friends before the wedding. Deciding what to do, for something memorable and personal isn’t always easy.

Luckily for bride Angie, her hen do was in safe hands with bridesmaid Louise, who organised a vintage make over and photo shoot for the day. The girls looked like they had a fabulous time getting glammed up with scrummy treats on hand at The Keeper & The Dell.

Thanks so much to Eliza Boo Photography for sharing her lovely images with us this afternoon, here is what bridesmaid Louise had to say about the day;

“ I had known Becky Hoh-Hale for some time, as she wrote several articles for me in my role as Managing Editor at a small publishing company, and when my friend Angela asked me to be her bridesmaid and I took on the task of planning her hen do, I instantly remembered A Most Curious Party and knew it would be absolutely perfect for her. Not only is Angela a fan of all things vintage, I knew she would want something unusual and memorable, but also tasteful – with no embarrassing surprises!

I was able to organise the whole event with Becky, including food, drinks, props, make up, hair styling and professional photographer (Eliza Boo Photography), and followed up on her suggestion of a beautiful new wedding and hen party venue in the Norfolk countryside – The Keeper and the Dell. When I visited the site I knew that, too, would be perfect – away from the hubbub of the city (but not too far), and a peaceful, tranquil and almost magical environment that was ours to relax in for the afternoon.

The chosen date turned out to be a glorious summer day. After a tasty afternoon tea, we each had our hair and make up done in a 40s/50s style, and donned the dresses we had purchased in advance (the only detail known by the bride-to-be!). Having sought a venue with an indoor area in case of rain, I actually ended up being glad of the airy, rustic barn in order for us to stay cool and prevent our make up from melting!

Boo photographed all of the proceedings, and once the makeovers were complete, arranged us for plenty of group shots. The results were absolutely amazing and perfectly captured the mood of the day, as well as the enchanting venue.

We then had the barn and dell area to ourselves for a few hours, reclining on the couches, sipping Champagne, and venturing out to the swing in the dell area – all with plenty of fun and laughter”.

From bride Angie:

“It was such a beautiful sunny day, so doing something in such a “rural” countryside location was perfect. The little barn had been decorated with bunting & set out for a vintage style tea party, it was so cute I just loved it! It was made even more exciting as it was a total surprise for me!

I think my favourite part of the day was everyone having their hair and make up done, it was such a treat and lovely to be so spoilt. It was brilliant having a professional photographer there too so we all have some really wonderful photographs as a reminder of a lovely day.

Once we were all dolled up we headed to St Giles House for cocktails; all very glamorous and a real treat. After that we hit the town for drinking & dancing until the early hours. It was a really great night full of fun & frolics! Louise, my bridesmaid did an excellent job of putting together a day which was absolutely perfect for me. I couldn’t have asked for anything more.”
