Evan and Catherine were married at the iconic Phoenix Hotel in San Francisco and their reception was at the super cool Chambers Eat + Drink. They wanted a wedding that was edgy yet elegant – just like them! The venues they chose really helped to set that mood. “After a long search for wedding venues, we were feeling uninspired”, Catherine began. “Pricey and cookie cutter was the theme for most of the spaces we looked at. We needed to find a place that inspired not only us but our guests.”

“After a serendipitous moment of noticing a friends picture labelled ‘Chambers SF’ we found ourself in a Rock n Roll inspired eatery, connected to the iconic San Francisco hotel, The Phoenix. Chambers being Evans last name was just the icing on the wedding cake (which we didn’t have.) Our venue was an oasis in the middle of city lights, it felt absolutely perfect. I channelled my love for art and glam, and kept in mind Evans creativity and knack for the funky and fresh. Together it was a killer and eclectic combo.”

“The whole day was easy” she continued. “It was like a normal day hanging out with our friends and family. We didn’t feel obligated to follow any particular rules about getting ready or prepping. We did what felt normal and good to us. Which reflects so much of our relationship, easy.”

“It was like we were on vacation with our family and friends. While getting ready, my bridesmaids and I put Aretha Franklin on vinyl in the record player and lip sung our way into our dresses. Meanwhile the boys were watching sports and indulging in a few adult beverages, typical stuff.  The defining moment happened when we exchanged our vows. It was explosive energy.”

The couple saved money by choosing things that didn’t necessarily scream ‘wedding!’ (like their outfits) and by having lots of very helpful friends and family members. “Your ideas mean something and should be valued, without costing you a ton of money”, Catherine advices. “Create dream boards, and hit up THRIFT shops and antique fairs. I started doing this very early on in the planning process, it helps you budget.”

“We did not use florals on the tables, instead we let candlelight be our centerpiece and utilized vases and candelabras I found at thrift shops. Also, I rented my designer dress. Being choosy with our guest list helped a lot too. If we could have invited everyone, we would have, we have so many amazing people in our lives. However, it comes down to inviting the people who are present in your current life together.”
