I have written features about marquee weddings and village hall weddings, so I thought today I would take a look at another popular venue choice, the barn.

Barn weddings in the UK and beyond have shot up in popularity thanks to the rustic trend in wedding décor. Full of character and history barns can provide vast space for a wedding day and are quite often set in picturesque settings.

Up and down the country you can find barns which provide wedding packages, or you could go off the beaten track and ask a farmer to lend you their barn. Whichever direction you go in, I have some beautiful inspiring ideas to show you how to have the perfect barn celebration.

Ceremony

There are a number of barns which hold a wedding licence so you can hold your ceremony at the same venue. You can go as simple or extravagant as you like in terms of décor, or opt for a legal ceremony or personal blessing.

Decoration

Decorating a barn is no easy challenge. The shear size of many barns can leave you not knowing where to begin. Start with decorating your tables and then add décor to the room as a whole.

From lighting to hanging decorations, be sure to ask your venue for advice on getting up high to hang them safely.

You could keep your décor simple and let the building do the talking, or go for a colourful vibrant scheme decked out in lovely details. To make a large space feel cosy, how about dividing the room, have a seating area, a kids play corner or photo booth section.

Location

Finding the perfect barn is essential. If you want to relax on the day, go for a barn with a full on package. Or if you are feeling up to a DIY challenge don’t forget to consider catering, drinks, toilets , parking and furniture.

Get online to search out brilliant barns, or jump in the car and drive around your local area. You may be surprised what you find when you go looking.
