Christmas Tree Decor 101

Christmas Tree Decor 101

Yesterday I put up my 7 foot $29.99 Walmart Christmas Tree and had a great time doing it. I’ll admit last year I wanted nothing to do with a tree of any kind. Yes I was in the Christmas spirit, but all the work for a tree? Not that year. This year was a different story, however. After Thanksgiving I told myself I would put up my Christmas Tree mainly because I’m hosting a dinner party with close friends at my home. I truly believe that events are the things that gets anyone into the spirit. So off I went to complete a time consuming tasks for us anal retentive people who have to have everything in the right spot. Here are some tips I discovered that would be helpful. 1. Think about how you would like your Christmas Tree to look. What theme, color palette or inspiration are you using to decorate. Never decorate a tree by placing any and everything on it. It ends up looking like chaos 2. If at all possible purchase a pre-lit tree. This is a tree that comes with lights already on it and cheaper in the end. Of course for those of you who love the real thing you can by-pass this tip. 3. If you are placing lights on your Christmas Tree, start at the base. Always start on the inside of the Christmas Tree and make your way to the tip of the branches. You want depth with everything you place on the tree. The next few tips are important as there are 2 types of ornaments to use. 4.   Use what I like to call “fillers” to serve as your base. Filler ornaments are those that are basic in color and can easily coordinate with your color palette. These are the inexpensive ornaments that have a big job. Ensure you place these ornaments inside the Christmas Tree and some on the tips of the branches. Ideally you want to buy enough of this to fill in empty spots. 5. Now it’s time for your collectibles or as I say expensive stuff to go on the tree. You want to blend in these ornaments with your fillers. Be sure to place these in high visibility areas of the tree. If your tree is placed against a wall, it’s not necessary to place a collectible ornament on the back where no one will see it. Use a filler for that. Dont feel pressured to empty your bank account for collectibles either. As you build your collection year after year, it will be easier. Remember you want to add depth to your tree by placing ornaments inside and on the tips of the branches. Use varying sizes of ornaments as well. Also be sure to bring twine and floral wire to help secure larger decor items. Safety: When lighting your Christmas Tree please use non-flammable lights and trees. Big Christmas lights are not meant for your tree and can easily set it on fire. See these safety tips to consider. Christmas Tree Inspiration
