Katie & Will | Traditional Mississippi Wedding at The Cedars

Today, a sweet Mississippi wedding from a fellow blogger - I just love how timeless and lovely Katie and Will’s outdoor celebration is, and the photos from Sully Clemmer do such a great job of capturing the day.

The bride wore the same gold cuff both her mother and grandmother wore on their wedding days. She also wore her aunt’s hair clip.

Says Katie, “Receiving the sacrament of marriage in the Catholic Church was very important to me. We also had the same readings and processional music as my parents.”

Photos from the couple’s parents’ and grandparents’ weddings were on the guest book table.

“I took most of my inspiration from grounds of The Cedars. Spring has always been my favorite season, and I wanted to let the natural beauty of the day shine through. I incorporated shades of blush and white into both the ceremony and reception with hints of lush greenery and pewter. From designing my own wedding stationery to picking out my dress, keeping the season in mind helped me focus on the big picture.”

Favors were herb seedlings including basil, parsley, and cilantro.

Why did you choose this location for your wedding?  I had always envisioned an outdoor wedding reception, and as soon as we drove up to The Cedars, I knew it was the one. It is the oldest residential structure in Jackson, Mississippi, with a grand front porch and general Southern charm. The large grassy yard and sweeping magnolia tree were the perfect backdrop for our wedding.

What was your favorite moment or part of the day?  I knew the ceremony would be my favorite aspect of the day, but walking back up the aisle as husband and wife was my favorite moment. I do not think I have ever been that happy. As we walked out of the Cathedral, we had a few minutes to ourselves, just to relish in the moment.

What was the best advice you received as a bride?  Trust your vendors and enjoy your special day. It is so easy to get caught up in all the little details, but its better to be in the moment and enjoy every part of your big day. It will be over before you know it.

What advice do you have for other brides?  Do what feels right to you. We knew we did not want to see each other before the ceremony, but were advised otherwise. We stuck with our gut instinct, and I am so glad we did. Seeing my husband for the first time as I walked down the aisle is a memory I will always cherish.
