Vintage Travel-Themed Wedding: Brittney + Patrick

Vintage Travel-Themed Wedding: Brittney + Patrick

via

Brittney + Patrick wanted to create a fun, slightly untraditional wedding that was sure to be uniquely theirs. They settled on a vintage travel-themed celebration, with a nod to their favorite Disney adventure, Up, and painted the setting with playful details like vintage suitcases, old postcards + antique globes! To keep things from feeling overly vintage (and to round out the design), they had Belle of the Ball Designs create more structured, modern floral arrangements. Love how they helped give the environment a fresh + whimsical vibe! When it came to planning their day, Brittney + Patrick stuck to their guns and made sure not to get too wrapped up in the beautiful scenes in magazine spreads or on Pinterest. The end result was a celebration that was meaningful to them and their guests + truly embraced all of the things that make them who they are together!

From the bride, Like most couples, we wanted to make our wedding personal, warm, and fun, and enjoy it with our guests. After a lot of brainstorming and deliberation, we chose an adventure theme to bring our love story together. This included small nods to our favorite adventure story, Disney’s Up, naming our tables after our dream vacation destinations, and some vintage travel decor. We didn’t want to fully jump on the vintage bandwagon because no matter how much we appreciate that look, it wouldn’t be “us” to have a full vintage wedding. Instead, we found select decor items that had meaning to us: Patrick’s grandpa’s childhood baseball mitt, a telephone switchboard to honor Patrick’s grandma who worked as a switchboard operator in Manhattan, and Brittney’s great grandfather’s tool box that held the wedding cards.

Big thanks to Marianne Wilson for the pretty photography and congrats to Brittney + Patrick on a beautiful day!

Brittney’s colorful bouquet included some of my favorites: succulents, craspedia, dahlias + scabiosa pods!

Not one to keep with the traditional ceremony, we opted for something short written and performed by Patrick’s brother. We also had a “Rum and Coke” ceremony to signify our unity and asked guests to throw paper airplanes during the recessional to signify the beginning of our journey.

Our favorite moment of the day was the ceremony recessional. Walking out, holding hands, glowing from a ceremonial rum and coke (instead of a sand ceremony, or a candle lighting ceremony, we opted for rum and coke), with paper airplanes sailing toward our faces, greeted by the cheers of our family and friends; we felt the love. It was perfect.

And how cute is their adventure-themed sweetheart table?!

Don't worry about living up to others' expectations of what your wedding should be. Get used to the idea that you might have to nicely turn down loved ones suggestions and gently explain to them your inspiration for your wedding.

If the vendors you contact don't make you feel special, keep looking. When it came to vendors, it was very important that they respected us as people and did not treat us as just another customer that could be overcharged and treated poorly. As a result, we weeded through a few vendors very quickly to come up with the best possible crop of professionals that made for a flawless, stress-free day. I would recommend that couples do the same thing within their budget. It's important that you are comfortable around your vendors, because they will be by your side throughout your wedding.
