Relaxed Summer Camp Wedding in Denmark

Relaxed Summer Camp Wedding in Denmark

via

Ida and Joseph’s wedding was a fusion of Denmark and the UK, with guests travelling to Denmark to be a part of their celebrations.

With a budget of £6000 they crafted much of their day alongside family and friends. With DIY flower arrangements, decorated jam jars and pebble place names. I so love the balloon release, Ida’s beautiful 1950s vintage dress and the smiles throughout.

Thanks so much to Philippa James for sharing her amazing images with us today.

The Proposal… in Copenhagen on a small beach.

The Vision for the Day… To have a wedding that was all about being together. Being from two countries (Denmark and UK) we saw this to be a unique opportunity to get everyone together for once. Many travelled from far away and we wanted to have time to spend time with everybody and create a frame where the guests could get to know each other and catch up in a relaxed and fun way. We wanted to make it personal and meaningful by doing a lot of things ourselves and getting the guests involved in the preparations.

The Planning Process… Even though it was a very relaxed wedding doing so much yourselves and with the help of friends required lots of planning. We made task sheets and appointed team leaders for all the things needed to be done throughout the weekend in order to be able to delegate and relax.

Budget… 6000 pounds including everything (also free bar, clothes, rings, 3 course buffet , band etc) The guests who stayed on site paid a small sum to get all the other meals throughout the weekend.

The Venue… We had rented a summer camp for schoolchildren situated in the beautiful Boserup Forest in Denmark. With 60 bunk beds for the guests, an old barn for the party and the water 20 metres away. Most of the guests arrived Friday evening and left Sunday afternoon, so there was lots of time to relax, build bonfires, sail in canoes and catch up. Everybody helped with meals and getting the place ready.

The Dress + Accessories… The dress was an original 50s dress found in a vintage shop in Copenhagen. My hair decoration was the same my mum wore for her wedding and the flowers were picked by my friends on the day.

Finding the Dress… I was delighted when I discovered the little vintage shop with dresses collected by the owner and sorted after decade. I spent an amazing evening in the shop with my friend trying on dresses I never thought I would see myself in. There was no doubt though when I tried the dress I ended up buying.

Groom’s Attire… A grey suit, red knitted tie and red socks.

The Readings + Music… The ceremony was done half in Danish half in English .

Beautiful Bridesmaids… My sister and my niece.

The Flowers… picked by friends.

The Cake… The cake was served outside on the lawn by the water. It consisted of 80 cupcakes made by my sister and my good friend. The cake stand was made of wood by my dad. The figurines on top was made by my lovely 7 year old bridesmaid Poppy

Your Photographer… Philippa James did our photography and she was amazing. Apart from being a talented and professional photographer with a style and storytelling ability we absolutely love, she is also our best friend and the reason we met each other back in 2002 in London.

The Details + Decor… The decoration was all put up the night before by lots of helpful friends and family. On Saturday morning the girls went out flower picking in the forest. The name cards were written on 75 stones collected over the years by my late grandmother on her many walks by the sea.

The Honeymoon… was 2 nights in sunny Prague at a small luxury boutique hotel.

Memorable Moments… So many. Seeing all our friends and families at the table at the dinner. Very emotional and fantastic for both of us. 75 balloons with little letters from all the guests attached going up in the sky by the waterside. A surprise by our good friends.  Lots of great speeches and songs by family and friends during the dinner  – and the reaction of the English crowd who was not used to this tradition (they loved it though).

Advice for Other Couples… Getting everyone involved in the prep is a great way to create a good atmosphere for the party. People get to know each other and has already something to talk about. Make sure you have an over all plan though.
