Peach Garden Roses ✈ Dream Destination Wedding in Ibiza

Peach Garden Roses ✈ Dream Destination Wedding in Ibiza

via

Today we have the story of Debbie and Greg who planned their wedding in Ibiza all the way from New Zealand. A love of both beaches and music led them to the island, where they had their dream wedding with the friends and family who traveled with them to share their day. Check out Debbie’s gorgeous Marchesa dress, and the contrast between the soft peach roses and the cactus table decorations at the reception. Debbie has only good things to say about their photographer Gypsy Westwood, and shares the story of how they met and all the details of their big day below.

The Meeting

We were actually introduced rather unromantically on the tarmac of Stansted Airport- we were en route to Valencia with a group of mutual friends to watch the America’s Cup sailing regatta. Whilst we didn’t hook up on that particular weekend (Greg especially made an effort to keep in touch, aided by the old classic of  ’accidentally’ leaving his sunglasses in my bag!), we did eventually get together at a Faithless concert in Hyde Park. A few years later Greg proposed on the top of Table Mountain in Cape Town. So after a relatively worldly introduction and seduction of each other we decided that having a traditional wedding in New Zealand just wasn’t us.

Deciding on a Destination Wedding

A wedding in Ibiza was just a dream at first, especially after holidaying there many times whilst living in London, and really just loving the vibe and feel of the island. Greg’s love of music and my love for dreamy, relaxed, beaches and gypsy-like surroundings just kept nagging away at us so we decided to go to the island, get some info and see what would come of it. We tracked down Vicki and Alex from EAT Ibiza and over weekend and they showed us around multiple venues, and we just knew when we first walked into Villa Paissa den Bernat that it was the one. It had the perfect sunset view, stunning infinity pool and a rustic vibe that we were after. We wanted the whole day to be laid back, relaxed and full of laughter, music and dancing.

So after getting the go ahead from our families who supported us and would make the trip all the way from New Zealand, it was sorted! Our Ibiza wedding dream would become a reality and we would make this a wedding week for our families and friends one to remember. EAT Ibiza genuinely helped create this reality and our dream wedding day- so much thanks to both Alex and Vicki.

The Bride’s Look

I was after a non-traditional dress that wasn’t from your typical bridal store. I had it in my mind that I wanted a dress with an interesting back and couldn’t believe it when I stumbled upon this beautiful Marchesa number whilst on holiday in Melbourne. I had my shoes handmade by Emmy Shoes, and they were just so beautiful- felt like slippers and matched my dress perfectly. I found my earrings whilst on a work trip in Delhi.

Hair and makeup were done by the lovely Nicole from Bellissima, who also did my bridesmaid Amy’s. Nicole was fantastic and managed to create the soft, relaxed look I was after. My hair was finished off with a beautiful peach rose that Vicki picked out, I felt it suited the vintage feel of my dress perfectly. My sister-in-law wove my late Grandma’s pearls into my bouquet which felt extra special, since no grandparents were able to be with us on our big day.

The Food – Tapas

The food prepared by EAT Ibiza was a real highlight of the wedding for us. Having been to so many weddings before we wanted to make sure we got this right, as so often it can be a real let down when done on a mass scale. We went for a pretty decent selection of tapas which was just perfect for the more informal nature of our wedding. They were also able to be delivered fresh and visually were quite exquisitely prepared. On tables of six it was fantastic to see people sharing and passing plates around, so the tapas theme really worked for us! The steak was particularly exceptional and the cake (designed by Vicki) was a 3-tier extravanganza with caramlised apricots and peaches to match our peach theme.

The Music

We had a DJ aided by the amazing Lovely Laura on saxophone and a bongo drummer who together played an eclectic mix of Ibiza house classics, and of course a few random Kiwi tunes towards the end! Laura especially added a real element of class and we would highly recommend her as someone that brings an awesome live music element to the party. For our dinner entry-music our DJ played a remix of a Friendly Fires song called ‘Paris’ which lyrically referenced was something that Greg wooed me with, i.e. setting up his business and eventually making enough money to one day be in Paris living it up!

A huge thanks to Debbie for sharing all the details of the day with us, and to Gypsy Westwood for the lovely photos. Debbie only has the best things to say about her: “Gypsy captured the day perfectly, in exactly the tone we were after. She is totally unobtrusive yet is still very directional and confident at the same time. I would have no hesitation recommending her.”

Back tomorrow with our FAB 5. Can you believe another week is nearly over?
