2014 Wedding Trends Predictions

We know that all brides want a wedding that's individual and unique, but there are always some guiding overarching influences that bring about certain styles, ideas and colour palettes. These influences vary from year to year, some last a decade others only a season. Based on such influences here are our top 5 2014 wedding trends predictions...

1. In 2013 we saw weddings go Gatsby. In 2014 we're predicting the classic, elegant style of Princess Grace Kelly will influence the wedding world in much the same way. Grace of Monaco, a film about Grace Kelly's life, is set for release in early March. We'll see her timeless fashion brought to life again as Nicole Kidman plays the role of this style icon. Wedding themes will be kept simple and elegant to incorporate her regal style, while brides will look resplendent in princess style gowns, updos and of course a string of pearls!

2. Radiant Orchid is Pantone's 2014 colour of the year and we're eager to see this shade make an impact! The purple hue will likely pop up as bridesmaid dresses, in bouquets, on wedding tables and as part of invitations. We're big fans of radiant orchid mixed with red for a palette that's sensual, romantic and modern.

3. In late 2013 we were given the chance to view the 2014 bridal collections from local and international designers at the Bridal Showings in Sydney. One trend was clear - 2014 will be year of the back! Each collection featured one or more gowns with incredible back features using delicate lace, intricate draping and sparkling crystals. Don't worry though if you're not one for showing a bare back. Sheer lace necklines and sleeves were still a part of every collection and you won't need to look far to find something with a little more cover.

4. According to Modern Wedding DIY editor, Gail MacDiarmid, wedding DIY in 2014 is more about expressing one's creativity than concentrating on budgetary considerations. 'Influences and inspiration are coming from bygone eras, art, textiles and customs from a variety of cultures. These are combined with contemporary design to help create bespoke weddings that are both meaningful and a reflection of the bride and groom as a couple.' Stay tuned next week for all of Gail's 2014 Wedding DIY trend predictions.

5. 'Skin is back in!' according to Modern Wedding Hair & Beauty editor Rosemary Slade. 'Say goodbye to flat, matte makeup. This year is all about glowing, gorgeous, real skin. Foundations will be lighter, with an emphasis on a naturally dewy, luminous finish.' Braids were big in 2013, but 2014 will see a move towards rolls - 'french rolls, twists and buns. It's less boho and more sophisticated and chic,' says Rosemary. Smokey eyes never really left, but this year they'll be reigning supreme. 'Rather than a generic smokey eye look, we'll see more tailoring of colours to suit each person's individual look. For example: champagne and deep brown for blue eyes, deep purples and charcoals for green eyes and golds, bronzes and plums for brown eyes.' We're always pinning new wedding hair and makeup ideas so be sure to check us out on Pinterest.

We're looking forward to seeing how you make these trends your own. All the very best for a year of happy planning, celebrations and love. It doesn't last forever so enjoy it!
