Sweet & Meaningful Family Homemade Vintage Wedding | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

WWW readers Charlie and Liam married back in the summer and had one of the sweetest weddings I have seen in a while. Family and friends were so involved with the planning of their day, and there were so many meaningful touches. From Liam wearing Charlie's Grandad's suit, Charlie's Grandad arranging the pretty blooms, Charlie's mum making the cake, Liam's Nan making a ring cushion to Charlie's brother designing their order of service.

There were lovely vintage touches, with Charlie wearing an original 1950s lace dress with her hair in a pretty vintage do and cake topper borrowed from Charlie's mum and dad.

They had a BBQ, live music and a lot of smiles.

Thanks so much to the lovely Tracey Christina for sharing her photographs with us.

The Proposal... Sunday 11th December 2011. We had been out that afternoon, bought our petite Christmas tree and spent the remainder of the evening decorating our cosy little home and watching cheesy Christmas films. We finished off our evening by giving each other our Christmas cards. Liam had written 'Will you marry me?' in my card. He then got down on one knee and gave me the most beautiful ring which he had designed with his jeweller brother-in-law. It's a white gold, black pearl and aquamarine ring: http://www.grsjewellery.co.uk/ I'd hinted that I would like a pearl ring and aquamarine is my birth stone, so Liam is quite a clever chap! It was the perfect proposal in our first home together and I was so happy that it was just the two of us. Although Liam and I had talked about getting married I was still really surprised.

The Dress + Accessories... I wore a knee length lace vintage 1950s dress from Helena at Heavenly Vintage Brides. I wore a shoulder length veil, my Mum's pearl necklace that she was given as a 21 st birthday present and wore on her own wedding day (my something old), I borrowed my friend's pearl earrings that she wore on her wedding day the year before (my something borrowed), my Nan bought me a beautiful garter (my something new) and I splashed out on the most gorgeous blue Vivienne Westwood Lady Dragon shoes, which I actually first saw on WWW (my something blue). A friend and wig and makeup supervisor from work, Helen Keane, styled my hair and makeup on the day and fixed a vintage style pearl hair slide into my hair which I bought from John Lewis. I also purchased a white umbrella from John Lewis, just in case, but we were very lucky with the weather and I didn't need it. I also accessorised my outfit with a pair of wellies after dinner to get some amazing shots in the nearby field!

Groom's Attire... Liam wore my Grandad's suit. We were having a lovely afternoon at my Nan and Grandad's house, drinking tea, eating cakes and looking at old wedding photographs, when Liam mentioned that the 3 piece suit my Grandad was wearing in one of the photos was exactly what he was after for our wedding day. My Grandad still had the suit hanging in his wardrobe in perfect condition and insisted Liam tried it on. As luck would have it, the suit fitted near perfectly. Liam's Grandad suggested a tailor that he uses regularly to alter it and that was Liam done. He then chose a sky blue shirt from Charles Tyrwhitt for him and his Groomsmen to wear to complement a floral tie from Marks and Spencer, which we bought for the Groomsmen, our Dads and our Grandads to wear also. Liam accessorised his outfit with his Great Grandad's watch.

We booked One Foot in the Groove who provided a jazz trio for our drinks reception and a 5 piece party band for the evening. We cannot recommend One Foot in the Groove enough! Louise met us initially to talk about our ideas and was so lovely and was genuinely interested in all our plans for our day. The dance floor was full all night! Our first dance was to Michael Buble 'Everything' and then I danced to 'My Girl' with my Dad and 'The Way You Look Tonight' with my Grandad.

We also had a cake of cheese (4 in total) from our local deli Dalling & Co and made rhubarb chutney with rhubarb from my Grandad's garden as wedding favours and to go with the cheese.

Your Photographer... Tracey Christina. I first came across Tracey after following a link to her blog from a Jane Austen style shoot featured on WWW. I spent that afternoon looking at so many of her photographs - not just from weddings - and decided I had to contact her to see if she was available on our wedding date. We knew that we wanted informal, relaxed shots of our day and wanted to capture as many natural shots as possible of our guests and ourselves having fun. The photos of other weddings on Tracey's blog did exactly this. When we met up with Tracey we realised that she shared our love for personal touches and we knew that she would make sure she captured everyTHING as well as everyONE that was important to us. We are now left with a set of images that are perfect to us. Tracey really captured 'us' as a couple because she made us feel so relaxed and comfortable whilst having the photos taken.
