A Beautiful Wedding in Brooklyn Botanical Gardens : Bridal Musings

via

Think New York wedding, think stylish rooftops, hipster loft spaces, or swanky hotels with sprawling banquet halls.

But not for Audrey and Daniel.

Their Brooklyn wedding incorporated the best features of the city, while taking them a world away from skyscrapers and pavements.

Held in Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, their day included a yellow cab, a designer dress, Jimmy Choos and a gorgeous brownstone, alongside a stroll in Prospect Park, a ceremony under a willow tree, a chic reception in a stunning palm house and a night of dancing under the stars.

Nature and New York combined.

From relaxed getting-ready shots to an intimate first look and a sweet moment on a park bench, to stunning portraits of the couple among the willow branches, A Guy + Girl Photography captured some utterly special moments throughout the day.

A special ceremony, a lively reception, and a gorgeous couple; this unique New York wedding will inspire Big Apple brides and grooms looking for something a little different from their wedding day.

Our Day In Three Words

Carefree, classic, and fun.

The Inspiration

I wanted the colour palette to be soft and dusty and to work well with succulents. The other flowers were amnesia roses, some dahlias, and other roses. I wore a lace dress that I thought went well with the garden atmosphere. I wanted it to feel very fresh and clean and not compete with the beautiful surroundings of the Botanic Gardens.

The Photography

I chose my photographer because I met Lauren and instantly clicked with her. I knew I would happy to have her with me on my special day. I also really liked their journalistic style of photography and their ability to capture the little moments.

The Ceremony

Our friends, who are twins, conducted our ceremony so it was very intimate and special. We had our dear friend Jesse do a special reading and my two close girlfriends play the guitar and sing "Such Great Heights" by the Postal Service during the ceremony. They grew up with my husband and I have known them for 5 years. The cocktail hour had a smoked fish station which was a big hit. It also had a cheese station, full bar, and veggie station. And we served a Saint Germain cocktail. The dinner was a formal sit down meal with a choice of chicken or salmon, and a summer salad with arugula and strawberries. For dessert there were macarons, petits fours, and our wedding cake was from Momofuku Milk Bar, half chocolate malt, half banana caramel.

The Refreshments

The Decor

She also did low centrepieces, one more pink and one more purple, so the tables alternated between the two. The only DIY project was in lieu of favors, I bought olive branches and printed a tag thanking our guests for attending and informing them that a donation was made to a charity.

The botanic gardens provided the white linens, and table settings as well as the table numbers. My florist prepared a table with varied candles and birch bark for the name cards.

I walked down the aisle to "Falling Slowly" from Once. My husband walked down the aisle to "Blackbird" by The Beatles. Our first dance was "No One's Gonna Love You", Band of Horses and mixed into "You're All I Need" by Mary J Blige and Method Man. Our DJ was Philip Quinaz - DJ PQ. Our recessional was "Here Comes the Sun". Our ceremony. It was so intimate and personal and felt just like us. People who maybe didn't know one of us so well, could get a feeling for who we are by attending our ceremony. It was my favourite part of the whole day. And of course the dance floor!

The Music

Favourite Moment

I am such a sucker for public transport at weddings, cabs, taxis, metros, buses, I love them all.

I think what makes this wedding so unique is how it manages to be relaxed, fun and intimate, yet elegant, chic and classic all at the same time.
