A Modern Fairytale

Written by: louise

I know you've all dreamed of being a modern day Princess. And if there's one chance to really go for it, it has to be on your wedding day! Alongside a team of creative wedding professionals, UK photographer Tatum Reid had a vision to bring to life her dream fairytale wedding, and to inspire you to do the same. The result is a romantic and playful shoot with more than a hint of dreaminess... the perfect recipe for a love-filled day if you ask me!

The shoot itself was inspired by beautiful TV adverts, the ethereal, romantic Nina Ricci perfume advert, and the whimsical fairytale-inspired 2013 Christmas advert from M&S. We wanted to create a romantic, fairytale theme with light blush colours, grounded with earthy natural tones. We brought in quirky elements to pick up on the magical quality of a fairytale - like origami flowers and paper lashes!
When scouting for the venue we chose The Great Barn at Hales Hall because of it's unique gardens and outdoor space. The picturesque grounds and characterful buildings lender itself perfectly to the fairytale, outdoor feel we wanted to capture. We wanted to create magical tablescapes to go with the theme of our rustic fairytale shoot. Lottie's Florigami created some beautiful folded paper flowers to use throughout the table in soft blush colours and origami place settings. These were the starting point and worked into with folded old books for a little more paper magic. The first table had a real fairytale feel with blush, pinks and pops of red in the vintage books and miniature glass bottles. Cut glass candle sticks to really make the light twinkle. Ribbon tied chair backs mirrored the colours and textures in the beautiful paper topiary trees which balanced the table. We went for a classic understated look with this cake and feel its simple style really showed off the beautiful origami flowers. We also had a pale green and ivory colour scheme for this look to create a earthy natural feel. We then added interest with the different textures created with the sugar leaves, sugar hydrangeas and then twisted willow wrapped around the central tier decorated with fresh eryngium heads. The cake was displayed on a vintage fruit crate with a few accent succulents.
