Wedding in Poros, Greece

via

My goodness did I spend quite an afternoon pouring over todays breathtaking destination wedding in Poros, Greece! Jimmy surprised Elena with a romantic proposal only two days before they set off on their annual holiday to Europe and because they already knew that they wanted to get married in Jimmy's home town in Greece, they were wedding planning straight away with both the church and venue booked before they returned back to the States. If I had to pick one favourite thing about this wedding (and believe me, it is hard! Look at that insanely beautiful venue overlooking a sea of blue) it would probably have to be Elenas arrival at their wedding ceremony. Elena arrived by boat with her parents, sister and brother-in-law to the congregation waiting for her on the pier. From there, she was led by her family, friends and possibly the cutest flower girls I have ever seen to the church where Jimmy and his family waited for her at the entrance, bouquet in hand. Shivers girls. Shivers. I could go on for a few more paragraphs but perhaps it's best to just let George Pahountis, their amazing photographer tell the rest of their wedding day story through his oh so beautiful lens.

"We decided to have a destination wedding as my husband's family is from the island of Poros and many of them still live there. He grew up going there every summer so has a very strong connection there. We visit every summer together and wanted all of his family, along with mine in Greece, to be present at our wedding. My family is from another part of Greece, but they are all scattered and most of them came over from the States. We were fortunate to be in Poros during our engagement so we were able to choose our venue and church right away before returning to the States. Our biggest challenge was not knowing if our close family and friends would be able to make the trip to Greece. It was so important to us to have our immediate relatives and friends from Greece, as well as the States, present at our wedding but once we discussed our plans with everyone, and realised they would all come, it made a lot of our stress go away! We wanted a traditional Greek wedding, focusing on the love we have for each other, our family and friends. So many people travelled from all over the world to be with us on our wedding day so we wanted to make sure our wedding was FUN and not all about the material things. Poros island is so breathtaking, we wanted the natural beauty to be the focus. Sirene Blue was the perfect venue because the setting and location are beyond beautiful. We did not want to over decorate and take away from the natural beauty of the venue. We kept it traditional, simple and elegant. We had so much help from Jimmy's family. We could not have done this without them. Jimmy and I went to Poros 10 days before our wedding to finalise everything. Everyone we worked with in Greece was so helpful through email and Skype. The staff at Sirene Blue were amazing. The owners, Spiro and Katerina, helped us with everything imaginable. They referred photographers, videographers, our florist, and our DJ. I wanted to be involved in planning our wedding and didn't feel like I needed an actual planner. If you want to have a destination wedding, go into it with the mentality of "just have fun." We did not want to stress about perfection. We just went with the flow and stayed as organised as we possibly could. Don't stress about the little things. We wanted a destination wedding because we loved the idea of a more relaxed environment for all of our guests. Every bride wants her day to be perfect, but what makes it perfect is you joining lives with your husband, and all the love your family and friends surround you with. Nothing else! Without a doubt, the best decision we made was having our wedding in Poros. Every single one of our guests thanked us for having a destination wedding because it gave them a chance to experience a trip they always wanted to take. The memories are everlasting. Everything we did had a meaning behind it. Our church we chose, our wedding reception venue...all had special connections to our relationship. What we have now are the most INCREDIBLE pictures and the most AMAZING video. I can honestly say, that if we were to have gotten married in Chicago, I would've still flown George and Lee to the States. For us, photography and videography were very important because after all is done, pictures and video are our tangible memories. THEY ARE THE BEST!"
