Alice in Wonderland Rainbow Wedding | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

Bride Kaleigh had a long standing love of Alice in Wonderland and so it was fitting that she wanted a little wonderland injected into her wedding day.

Kaleigh and David are childhood sweethearts with the loveliest story, who tied the knot on Valentine's Day of this year. They wanted a wedding which was dreamy with rainbow colours.

They alongside their family and friends crafted their wedding to perfection, from paper flowers to rustic signs, which made their day super personal. Kaleigh donned a beautiful blue wedding dress, while the bridesmaids wore white with rainbow accessories. WOW.

Thanks so much to the wonderful Nigel Edgecombe Photography for sharing his images with us today.

THE PROPOSAL | Dave and I met at school. We were both 16/17 when we went on a ski trip with school. I tore all the ligaments in my knee, so I couldn't ski for the rest of the week, and I knew Dave liked me, as he brought me chocolate brownie to cheer me up, and hung back to look after me, when the others went ahead. We ended up kissing on my 17th birthday, which was a fancy dress party-I went as a red devil, and Dave as a priest! We started dating towards the end of sixth form, when we were both 17 and we are each others first official boyfriend/girlfriend, and each other's first love, so we count ourselves very lucky, as that doesn't happen to many people nowadays!

We have now been together for 9 years. It was tough to see each other at times, when we were both at uni, but every couple of weekends, we would make an effort to see each other. We moved in together in 2011, and we were in the house for a full year, before he proposed. Dave proposed on Christmas Eve 2012, and it was very romantic and sweet. We had been together such a long time, so everyone was so excited to hear that we would finally be tying the knot.

THE VISION | When I was a little girl, I loved 'Alice in Wonderland'. The story always spoke to me, as I suppose I have always loved fantasy, and enjoyed living in a dream world. We are both lovers of colour too, and so we thought the best way to sum us up, and keep the wedding feeling young, would be to have an 'Alice in Wonderland' rainbow wedding!!

I am very lucky to have a very creative family, and I am quite expressive with my creativity too. I always knew I would have a lot of bridesmaids, as I had 8 school friends who I have known for so many years, and are all so special to me. I also had 2 bridesmaids who I met doing Musical Theatre at uni, so they were always going to be involved, as we are so similar!! Also, my little sister was a bridesmaid, and Dave's three nieces. Then lastly, my Godson was a pageboy. I am a very inclusive, and giving person, and I always wanted to have everyone I loved around me on our special day. Dave is very like me in that way:he had his three older brothers as ushers, then THREE best men, as he couldn't choose between them!

So, with this in mind, and the very expressive theme at hand, we decided that a rainbow theme would work wonderfully. I had always wanted a different look to the day, and I had seen when looking on the internet that rainbow weddings are not uncommon, and there was picture evidence to prove it worked! I decided on each bridesmaid's colour, and they chose their own shoes to match this-We tried to use all the bridesmaid colours when choosing ties for the best men.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | Planning wise, everything went very smoothly, as my mum and I spaced making over a long period of time, so it wasn't so stressful nearer the time. This made the process thoroughly enjoyable, and it was great to have family time together making, with not just my mum, but my now mother in law.

Sparking ideas from the colours created, we incorporated 'Alice in Wonderland' ideas for the big day. Mum designed the card/clock buttonhole for the men, and together we made paper flowers for the bridesmaids, so that they could keep them as a souvenir, and we made flowers for the tables from foam, buttons, crepe paper and googly eyes, to mimic the 'flower garden' in 'alice'.

My Grandad made the 'this way, that way' wooden signs, and we put flowers in tea pots with cards dotted around to show the tea party feel. We made 'plant me' bottles with wildflower seeds inside for the women to have as favours. For the men, we made 'drink me' bottles which were filled with rum. We had about 25 kids at the wedding, so they had 'eat me' paper candy striped bags in multi colours with sweets in. The tables were themed around characters in 'Alice in Wonderland'. We really wanted everyone to feel like they were in a fantasy land, and we wanted everything to excess where possible, so people could enjoy everything. We had a teacup full of sweets, and photo props which were 'alice in wonderland' themed, as well as the typical moustaches and eyebrows etc!!

We had the most amazing day, and everyone loved the originality. We has so many comments on how informal the day was, and the fact that everyone felt relaxed and included, which was what we wanted most!

BUDGET | £10,000-this was met

THE VENUE | Holy Cross & St. Mary, Quainton. Notley Tythe Barn.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Lucie Green made my dress. I was so lucky to know Lucie from before, and when I told her my theme, she said she had an idea, and it was perfect. I did not originally think I wanted a big skirt, but I knew I wanted it to be blue, for my 'something blue', and to mimic Alice's dress in wonderland.

FINDING THE DRESS | I have seen Lucie Green's work in the past, and knew I wanted my dress from there. It seemed so special to me to have a dress designed especially for the bride. I only tried on about four other styles, before the designing process began. Once I decided I wanted the big skirt, I talked with Lucie and my mum, about colour scheme. My original thoughts were white, but later, speaking to my mum, she convinced me to ask about blue. This would double as my 'something blue' for the wedding, and was particularly 'Alice' esque! I didn't take much persuading, and I got to choose my beading design on the bodice, and the exact shade of powder blue that I was looking for.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Men's suits-Suitor's of Buckingham (independent retailer). Daves's tie pin and cufflinks were from 'Not on the high street'-his watch was from Skagen Uk.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | Guess How Much I love you by Sam McBratney, 'The Promise' by Eileen Rafter, Apache Wedding Blessing (long version) and A guide to husbands by Ogden Nash.

Music: Unaccompanied singing from Helena my bridesmaid of 'Songbird' by Eva Cassidy. The Band for the wedding are called 'The Talent'-can be a three to an eight piece. We had only a three piece. I walked in to 'Marry me' by Train, and we left to (Your love) Lifting me higher by Jackie Wilson. Our first dance was 'Destiny' by Lionel Ritchie

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | School friends, Harriet, Holly ,Emma ,Charlotte, Genevieve, Lizzy. Uni friends Lauren and Helena. Maid of honour-Rachel. Little bridesmaids : Beatrice (my sister), Mary, Amy, Isabella (Dave's nieces)

I had all of my bridesmaids wear white dresses, each with a different block colour accessories.

THE FLOWERS |Flowers-me and mum (table flowers and bouquets)felt, fabric clock buttons and googly eyes, all sourced through ebay-Dave's mum (church flowers) Emma Newman (florist in Winslow).

Table dec-me and mum-all sourced through amazon.

THE CAKE |mum-she knew the design she wanted to do, as she looked at a mixture of google images to come up with the finished cakes. The top layer was lemon sponge, then chocolate fudge in the middle, and traditional fruit cake in the bottom. Mum found the Alice Disney figurines on Amazon, and made Alice and the mad hatter the bride and groom! Our friend Tom from school is a fan of baking, and he made all the cupcakes, he sourced the 'Mr and Mrs Morrison' transfers from ebay and 'not on the high street'.com the giant K and D lettering were handmade by Dave's mum, and were made using Decopatch from hobbycraft.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Nigel Edgecombe. Nigel was extremely professional, and not intrusive at all. He captured the day for us in the most perfect way imaginable, and the way certain moments were highlighted was enchanting. He has a gift to see others, as they would wish to be seen. We highly recommend him, as a photographer of choice for any wedding.

THE DETAILS & DECOR | Much of this was prepared months in advance. The button corsages and flowers were prepared by my mum, and my helping hands, and kept ready to display nearer the time. I bought each bridesmaid a set of earrings or brooch from 'Not on the high street' and this helped to tie the colour scheme together. The day before was very busy. We set up the table plan (handmade by bridesmaids) and table designs were laid out by me, bridesmaids and best men. Because everything was mostly prepared so far in advance, the day before was quite hectic to set everything up, but leading up to the wedding, we had a much needed period of quiet and calm, as everything that could be displayed was last minute. We appreciated the calm before the storm!

THE HONEYMOON | Jensen Beach, Hutchinson Island, Florida. We stayed in family accommodation, but the location, we couldn't recommend highly enough. Its sandy beaches and year round guaranteed sun meant paradise for us. We really had a chance to wind down after all the madness!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Seeing David's face as I walked down the aisle. He was so in awe of me and the dress and I felt very special. We remember just looking around to take in all our guests and they were all having a ball. Everyone was happy and smiling. It was quite a young wedding, and there was a relaxed vibe to the day, no pressure, and you could really tell everyone was so pleased for us genuinely. Also, we remember walking out of the church and no one following as it was such a stormy windy day. We had a 'we just got married!' special moment between just us two, and that was lovely.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Take your time. Know your style and where you want to be, and stick to your guns, even if like us, your style is a little bit 'out there' or 'not the norm'. If you have a strong enough vision, then you can rest assured that it will all come together in the end. Also, plan and prepare every possible thing you can before the day, as in the weeks leading up to it, you need to be really chilled and relaxed.
