It's no secret I'm a sucker for a South African family farm wedding! Charmaine & HP's day is filled with creativity (pretty much every detail was lovingly made and crafted by her very talented family & friends), love and romance. I adore the gorgeous blush, blue & grey colour palette; it's sweet but sophisticated all at the same time. I love how the stationery design and the floral arrangements tie together, with pretty blush petals and silvery-green foliage. Charmaine's beautiful dress was made by a local designer, the delicate cap sleeves and gorgeous sparkly detailing will have you swooning! Add one of our favourite Cape Town photographers, Catherine Mac, to the mix and you've got a recipe for a pretty perfect wedding! I'm sure you'll love it as much as we do!
We met seven years ago at my sister-in-law's bachelorette after-party. It was the end of the year and both of us were going to be studying in Bloemfontein the following year, so we had to endure an entire summer holiday before we could make anything official. Much to my delight we discovered that we were going to the same holiday destination, so we decided to meet up for our first date. It was so wonderful and I was head over heels in love, I couldn't wait to get back to varsity just to see him again. As the new year progressed, we finally made things official on Valentine's day and 7 years later HP popped the question on the same coastline where we were at on our first date. We took an early morning walk on the beach and sat down to admire the view. HP was "scratching" something in the sand and I after a while I wanted to see what he was up to. I then saw the word 'marry', so I quickly got up to see what he had written. In the sand he had drawn a little stick man on one knee with a ring in his hand, with a speech bubble reading "Will you marry me?" He then got up on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was so delighted and after many happy tears and up-and-down jumps of excitement, we went back to share the news with our families.
Our venue was on my parents (Charmaine's) farm Mein Heim Estate in Kimberley, and I have always dreamed of getting married at home. Local dress designer, Nikki Visagie, made my dress. I wanted a soft, easy look and asked my hair & make up artist to keep this in mind on the day. I loved the result! 
I originally wanted an all white wedding, but blush and pastel blues and greys made their way in there. We wanted it be be clean and fresh, with a relaxing and festive feel.Our whole wedding was basically DIY. Not that anyone can do what we did, but I am blessed to have many talented people in my family! My one sister designed the stationery, the other baked my cake - it was white, with a touch of gold and blush.
Everyone (even our very good friends all the way from Canada) assisted with the flowers and the set-up. We ordered all of the flowers from the local flower market, and the family all pitched in and did the table flower arrangements. I made the vases, they were cheap coloured vases I found and spray painted white! My mother is known to her family as Super Woman, and indeed she was. If I imagined anything, she made it happen. She designed and had the tables made, she organised the dance floor, the tablecloths, the serviettes, the strings of lights, so without her input, none of this would have been possible. I hope I can be half the woman she is one day. The very talented Catherine Mac was our photographer and I chose her because being a photographer myself, I wanted the best, and she is the best!!
