Pretty Flower Fairy Bridesmaid Ideas | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

This afternoon is all about pretty whimsical wedding ideas and inspiration; drawn from Edwardian flower fairy imagery.

I love these brilliant tweenage bridesmaid ideas, with each gorgeous girl being given her own fairy identity. There were wonderful frocks, bountiful florals and charming styling. Lets get lost in fairy wonderland...

Thanks so very much to Kat Forsyth Photography for sharing her images today, here is what shoot organiser Gwenda from The Vintage Floral Design Co had to say about the shoot;

"I regularly have to drag my daughter, Nadia, along to shoots and wedding set-ups, so it was only fair that I gave her a shoot of her own as repayment. Along with two of her friends, Elizabeth and Skyla Grace, these three young ladies became my flower fairies for the day at the wonderful venue that is The Secret Garden in Ashford, Kent. Drawing inspiration from the much-loved Edwardian imagery, we wanted to give a modern twist to the styling, creating something feminine and grown-up enough for our team of tweenage bridesmaids! I chose the vintage wedding classics of white, lilac, pink and peach as our colour palette, with plenty of shimmering gold to catch the light. Each girl was to embody a different flower and colour; Nadia as a peach rose, Elizabeth as a lilac hydrangea and Skyla as a pink peony. Being a big fan of Cicely Mary Barker's 'Flower Fairies', Kat was the natural choice to capture the shoot in all it's sparkly glory. Her beautiful edit gave all the fabulous depth of colour to my flowers and a wonderful glow to every element of the shoot. I met Anna of Thumbelina Designs right back at the start of my wedding industry career in early 2012. Her intricate dress designs made her the perfect collaborator for this shoot and fortunately for me, she agreed! In her own words: "This was a commission made for Thumbelina Design - whimsical, ethereal and a downright beautiful fairytale! Designing and creating for this shoot was an organic process, the colours were soft and muted, the fabrics delicate and floaty. When doing the research for styling I was drawn to the magic of tulle, sparkle and a touch of couture. After all, this shoot was going to be a piece of theatre, so the imagination was allowed to run away with itself!" So, our girls were decked out is amazing frocks, now they needed equally spectacular hairstyles to match and thanks to Hayley at Flame Beauty, they got just that! Hayley explains: "After being presented with the brief for the shoot, research began by looking at flower fairy images of both young and old, modern and vintage to source the right look for our shoot at the Secret Garden. The result was a fresh twist on a classic look incorporating waves, braids and burnished copper to create natural but mystical bridesmaids." Completing the team of contributors was a dream as the suppliers embraced my vision whole-heartedly. Kimberly of Bliss Bespoke Cakes created some gilded iced biscuits, each topped with a single sugar paste hydrangea petal and a classic 3-tier cake with lace and pleated ribbon details, finished with exquisitely executed sugar paste flowers and gilded leaves. Sas of Candelabra designed a bespoke invitation, RSVP and place cards which incorporated illustrations of our key flower types. The latter graced a table styled using the venue's vintage china, with vases of flowers in bouquets and as single stems, all upon a champagne gold sequin table cloth provided by Melissa of The Sweet Hostess. This shoot culminated in each of their blooms coming together to form the bridal bouquet - blink and you'd miss my bridal cameo appearance (sporting a lovely mermaid-style gown from Miss Bush and gorgeous gilded shoes by Marsha Hall) as the heavens opened and rain ended play! But it was all about the girls, who modelled beautifully and were rightly the stars of the show."
