DIY Flower Hair Slide Tutorial - Bridal Musings Wedding Blog

Today we have something rather special, pretty gorgeous, and super easy to share with you guys.

A DIY fresh flower hair slide tutorial; as modelled below by our very own Elizabeth - isn't it beautiful?

You wouldn't believe how easy this is to make at home. And how little you need to do it.

Elizabeth created this gorgeous hair accessory in just 15 minutes on our recent Bridal Musings photoshoot, with the help of Louise Beukes of B.Loved.

Meanwhile the wonderful Marianne Taylor Photography snapped away and our resident hair guru Sev of Hepburn Collection kept her tresses tousled.

So simple to create, this slide would look fabulous with both your hair down, or an upstyle. Pretty and delicate, it lends itself to a feminine and romantic look, while still being an alternative, less bohemian style as a flower crown.

What You Need:

- Flowers

- A plain hair slide

- A pair of scissors

- A glue gun

How To Make a DIY Flower Hair Slide:

1. Gather Your Tools

When selecting your flowers, choose one or two larger blooms, then some smaller petals on a single stem for a trailing effect like ours.

If you're hoping to wear your slide all day, chat to your florist about which blooms are the hardiest flowers from your wedding bouquet selection, so they last as long as possible.

As for choosing a hair slide, plastic holds the glue well, but a metal slide will work too, (ours was from Claire's Accessories).

Heat up your glue gun, and you're on your way!

2. Cut Your Flowers

For the bigger blooms, cut quite close to the bud, particularly if the stem is a stiff one. Leave about 1cm for glueing with.

For the trailing flowers, allow the stem to be slightly longer that the width of your slide.

3. Glue Your Flowers

Begin to glue your flowers, starting with the long stem, then working out to the bigger buds. Remember, a small amount of glue goes a long way, so start off light, then add more as you need to (which you probably will for the bigger ones).

As you glue each flower, hold it down for a minute, until it feels secure. Do be careful though - this glue gets HOT!

4. Fix The Flowers

Once you've added the each flowers, you may need to adjust it slightly so that they fit neatly together. Gently do this before the glue has fully set.

Remember though, this is a natural look, you don't want it to look overly neat and perfect.

5. Allow to Set

Finally, once you're happy with your slide, leave your slide aside to set.

Make sure the glue has hardened and cooled entirely before trying on your slide - unless you want a chewing gum-esque hair horror story!

Try on your gorgeous new fresh flower hair slide, isn't it beautiful?

This looks so pretty with some light waves, but would also look great in a tousled updo, a Gibson roll, or paired with some braids.

Perhaps create a slide ahead of your hair trial, that way, you can try out different ways of wearing it with your stylist. You'll also get a good idea how long your chosen blooms will last.
