Quirky & Pretty Travel Adventure Theme Wedding | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

With a love of travel, it was only right that WWW readers Emma and Hugh's (aka Emmugh!) wedding day held on the 6 th April 2014 at Pangdean Barn, had a fun adventure theme. They had some wonderful touches, from the fabric map bow ties to the suitcase cake and map stationery. Adore.

Emma and Hugh did much of the crafting themselves and came up with some brilliant games which even match made some single friends; the DIY blooms looked divine too.

Emma was radiant in her lace dress with plaited up do and simple jewellery. Soooo very pretty.

Thanks so very much to the fabulous Sara Reeve for sharing her images with us today.

THE PROPOSAL | Hugh proposed on our last night in Goa in April 2013. He told me he had a surprise for me and to close my eyes. When I opened them he was down on one knee and had written 'Will you marry me?' in the sand. He has always been good at romantic surprises but this one was by far the best!

THE VISION | We wanted our wedding to be fun, relaxed and a true reflection of us but still true to some wedding traditions.

THE VENUE | We chose Pangdean Barn in Pyecoombe, just outside of Brighton. We researched wedding venues and decided we liked the idea of a converted barn best as they give a warm informal sort of feel to the day. We visited a few venues around Sussex and Pangdean Barn was by far the most special. The grounds are gorgeous and the barn is beautifully set up with twinkly lights. As well as the barn there are several other spaces which meant we weren't confined to one area for the duration of the day but still had our privacy which was important to us.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | My dress was the first one I tried on and was from White Leaf Boutique in Brighton. As soon as I tried in on I felt amazing and I assumed I would feel the same in all wedding dresses so I shopped around a bit but no other dress compared to it. I loved the lace panelled back and the pretty capped sleeves.

My shoes were my something borrowed from a friend. She wore them for her wedding a few months before, they were beautiful Stuart Weitzman lace peep toe shoes with a small kitten heel.

Hugh surprised me with some gorgeous Swarovski jewellery, a matching necklace and earrings named Emma! I couldn't have chosen better myself.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Hugh bought his suit from Moss Bros, then had it tailored by a local seamstress. I wasn't allowed to see his outfit until the wedding day (he said that was only fair as he didn't get to see my dress!) so I was a bit nervous but I needn't have been, he looked fantastic! I loved his tan shoes and braces too. Hugh and the best men wore bow ties and pocket squares made by Hugh's mum from a map print fabric to go with our travel theme.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | I walked down the aisle to 'The Rose' sang by the Berkshire Youth Choir which Hugh was in when he was younger and we walked back out to 'Love is in the air' by John Paul Young. We had three readings which I found by researching wedding readings online. The first one was 'Aimons toujours, aimons encore', a poem by Victor Hugo - I wanted a reading in French as I grew up in France. The second was a funny one called 'Marriage is madness' which got quite a few laughs and the last one was a bike related one (as Hugh is bike mad!) called 'A marriage made for two'. As we were having a humanist ceremony we didn't want any hymns but we did want some singing so our guests all sang 'When I'm 64' by the Beatles.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | My bridesmaids were my sister Sophie and my childhood best friend Audrey. They wore floor length pale green strapless dresses which were by Matthew Williamson at Debenhams which I got in the sale (I was soo pleased with these are I found that most bridesmaids dresses were horribly expensive and often very ugly!).

THE FLOWERS | We got our flowers from the Brighton Flower company as they had been recommended by several friends. We decided we would do the flower arranging ourselves and spend many months collecting jars (as all brides seem to be doing!). I quite nervous about doing the arranging myself but thankfully Tina at the Brighton Flower Company was fantastic, she helped me to pick out some lovely flowers and not once questioned our relatively small budget. In the end I actually really enjoyed doing the flower arranging and luckily my brother-in-law Tom worked as a florist for a while so he took care of the bouquets and button holes which was the trickiest part (he did a great job too!).

THE CAKE | Our very good friend Jamie made our delicious cake. He is a pastry chef and runs his own successful bakery, 'The Bicycle Bakery' in Tunbridge Wells. We had bounced some ideas about with him but we weren't prepared for the cake to be quite as amazing as it was. It was a three tiered cake, the bottom part was designed to look like an old-fashioned suitcase and the other two tiers looked like hat boxes. The cakes were chocolate with chocolate cream and raspberry filling, it was delicious! We also had a cheese cake - we saved quite a bit of money on this by buying all the cheese at Costco!

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | I picked up a card for Sara Reeve while wedding dress shopping. As soon as I saw some of her work I knew she was exactly the sort of photographer we were looking for. We met with her twice at her lovely home, she could not have been more friendly and helpful. I know a lot of people who have been unhappy with their wedding photos but I can honestly say Sara was fantastic and we are thrilled with our photographs, she managed to capture our day perfectly.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | We both love travelling and have been on lots of adventures together and our vision grew from there. We started with designing boarding pass style invites and ended up getting quite carried away with the theme making our own map bunting, a map table plan, country cut out table numbers, map decoupage letters, and a 'guess the honeymoon destination by pinning it on the map' game (Hugh organised it as a surprise and didn't tell anyone where we were going least of all me!). We also wanted our guests to mingle and get to know each other as they came from all over (many of them from France) so we organised a 'find your partner' game where each guest had a half of a photograph of us, had to find their pair then take a Polaroid picture and stick the lot in a guest book along with their own message to us - we loved looking through the book when we got back from our honeymoon. We also managed to set up a few of our single friends as a result ;)

THE HONEYMOON | Hugh organised it all and did a fantastic job - we had a luxury 2 week break in Costa Rica, it was magical and the perfect way to start our married life together!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Reading our own vows to each other which was an incredibly emotionally charged moment.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Don't forget the Pick and Mix! (we spent ages choosing our favourite sweets, putting them all in jars, just to forget to put them out on the night - we have been eating sweets on a daily basis for the last 2 months!)
