Perfect Imperfections Styled Shoot

Words and lyrics can provide such beautiful inspiration for your wedding. Today's shoot from a creative team of Dutch suppliers coordinated by stylist & designer Lucia Sandaal and photographer Alexandra Vonk was inspired by words from two different sources (one of which happens to me my favourite song right now!) that both acknowledge the 'imperfectness' of true love, truthfully and honestly. I just love that! The soft blue, blush and peach palette with pops of yellow and gold capture the theme in a romantic, whimsical and totally beautiful way. Get ready for some serious pinning action ladies!

Here's stylist Lucia with the details ~ I was inspired by the thought that there's poetry all around us; whether it's in a romantic movie, a beautiful song or even in the natural beauty that surrounds us on a daily basis. The particular inspiration came from two pieces of 'poetry'. The first being Carrie Bradshaw's famous quote in Sex and the City "I'm someone who's looking for love. Real love; ridiculous, inconvenient, consuming...can't live without each other love" and John Legend's hit song "All of Me (Loves All of You)", and the words 'perfect imperfections' from the song. I imagined these two quotes being love letters from a couple to each other and created the concept for the shoot around it.

The 18th century Country Estate Beeckestijn served as the perfect backdrop because of its beautiful monumental house and its gardens that are historically unique in The Netherlands because they showcase both the French Baroque style and the more playful style of English National Park side by side. Can you imagine a more romantic place to visualize this beautiful love story? To create a look and feel that was soft and romantic, I chose a soft and muted color palette of pale blue with accents of blush pink and gold. To complement the romantic surroundings we used pretty pastel furniture and styling details with an old and used look, but with a modern touch. Because the natural backdrop was beautiful of its own, we wanted the styling to be minimalistic, yet with meaningful details. So we used lace, flowers and ribbons as romantic styling decorations and topped it off with some beautiful gold details.

The rough edges on stationery, messy hairdo's, and mismatched chairs and glassware reflected the 'perfect imperfections' theme, as did the asymmetrical bouquet that was somewhat wild, yet feminine through the choice of soft colours like white and blush. We added a pop of orange to make it more alive and left the stems on the bouquet visible to emphasize the natural look and feel. For the centrepiece we added a legged glass vase to add a little more softness and femininity. For the dinner plates I applied Kintsugi, the old Japanese art of fixing broken pottery with gold to emphasize its marks and scars while giving it a new perspective, beauty and longevity {you can learn the technique in our DIY on b.loved this afternoon}. The candles I made by dipping beeswax on a low temperature to get that beautiful, yet imperfect look. We also used different kinds of minerals that are transitioned by nature. So we used petrified wood for the table number and combined it with gold calligraphy. The drop-shaped earrings the bride is wearing are made of Druzy Stone, that actually is a thin layer of quartz crystals covering the surface of a host stone and giving it a beautiful glittering effect. Because I wanted the overall look to be soft and feminine, I chose for one dress with a v-neck and lace details and another one with a flowy skirt and strapless body, that looked so special because of the slightly transparent top with a long train. Combined with the gold accents in her hair and jewellery made of Druzy quartz stones and gold. For the make up I envisioned a natural look that would allow the bride to shine and our make up stylist did an amazing job. The hair stylist perfectly translated the Perfect Imperfection vision into a half-loose hairstyle and turned my request for a slightly messy up-do into dreamy, angelic braids with gold leaf accents. I wanted the cake to be just the perfect shade of blue combined with white details. The cake designer added the loose lace details to fit the Perfect Imperfections visual theme. I just loved how it was so simple but pretty, just as I envisioned it. Love this look? Find more romantic inspiration here
