How To Wear Gold and Teal Eyeshadow

We love hearing from professional makeup artists about their tips and tricks of the trade when it comes to beauty. Today, makeup extraordinaire Marcela Alcala shows how to pull off bright eyeshadow seamlessly.

We've all swooned over those beautiful eyeshadow palettes with über-bright shades, but wondered how those lovely hues would translate to our eyes. Your wondering is over! I've got the secret to pulling off two of the boldest shades - teal and yellow - seamlessly: Put them together! This blended method can be used with other shades of the rainbow, and be toned down or hyped up. Let's get started!

Step 1. The key to working with yellow and teal shadow is keeping the rest of your face fresh and understated. Begin by applying a light to medium foundation (we love L'Oréal True Match Foundation) all over your face. Use a beauty blender to buff out your foundation for a flawless finish. You can also dust a light bronzer on your forehead, cheek hollows and nose to add color. Just make sure that your skin looks natural and not overdone!

Step 2. Grab an eye primer and apply all over the lid and brow bone. For long-lasting results try Urban Decay Eye Primer Potion.

Step 3. Grab your yellow and teal shadows. I used Savage from the Urban Decay Electric Palette and Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo Pure Pigments Loose Powder Shadow in Wild Gold. Using a flat shadow brush, apply the yellow shadow to the inner corner of your eye through about 2/3 of the eyelid. Then use the teal shadow to fill in the outer corner and work slightly into the crease. Only apply the shadows from the lash line to the crease of the eye and make sure to blend the edges so there's a seamless color transition. MDC Quick Tip: Make sure to pad the shadows on for maximum pigmentation!

Step 4. Keep the cheeks and lips neutral. Go for a natural peach blush and a soft nude or light pink lip color. You don't want to upstage your eyes!

Step 5. Coat your lashes with some va-va-voom mascara! For fluffy, elongated lashes, try L'Oréal Paris Voluminous Butterfly Mascara.
