Summer & Robin: The Distracting Yet Useful Uncle.

Summer & Robin: The Distracting Yet Useful Uncle.

The past month and a half has been crazy busy. Sadly not with wedding planning but with a whole bunch of other stuff. Most of which was tons of fun just not incredibly productive!

My uncle Duane came to visit, all the way from Mississippi and we thoroughly wore ourselves out playing tourist...he promised that him and his wife (hi Paige!) would be coming back next summer for our wedding, yay!)

They own a catering business and actually make all those crazy delicious looking American style wedding buffet tables. Oyster bars, fruit platters, incredible candy stations...swoon. They did say 'if they could' they would love to cater our wedding. So obviously I'm expecting them to hire a private jet and do their first transatlantic wedding next summer. Haha joking, not joking.

I went home to Leicester for a couple of days and got the chance to get together with all my sisters and talk wedding stuff. They quizzed me about hen party ideas, dead exciting. Then we went out for cocktails and we worked on our signature dance moves, yes we're cool. At one point Roslyns' move caught on and a whole group of strangers started doing it. Dance moves include the dip'n'pop, the chicken wing, the bae'yonce and an honourable mention to our Dads signature move the crab! It turns out being the big sister means I have to have to worst hangover the next day, I must remember to prepare hangover cures for the day after the wedding!!!!

The cutest vintage fair pitched up in Bath a couple of weeks ago. Emmett insisted on going into the arcade, which I usually hate. 2p machines and claw games where you can win 20 Lambert & Butler is the usual arcade fodder. But, holy cow, this arcade was the best thing ever! It was filled with vintage machines that only took big old pennies. I played a couple of the love'o'meters and fortune telling machines and there was even one called the matrimonial bureau. I couldn't help but think how incredible it would be to hire the whole thing for a wedding reception, and how incredibly expensive it would be for an August wedding, although probably not so much in the winter months when it isn't touring...

One thing we have sorted is our photographer and videographer.

Our photographer is, drum roll please... Joab Smith. I contacted him just after our first blog post went up and he already knew who we were (totes wedding famous)! He came over to our house so we could look through some of his work and chat about what type of thing we wanted.

I'm pretty sure I was the weirdest crazy Bride he's ever met. Robin said I came across like I hated weddings, ha! I just wanted to be clear that I didn't want posey cute pictures. And, to be honest, I do get pretty enthusiastic when I'm excited. But luckily I didn't scare him off.

Joabs' style is natural unobtrusive reportage photography. So, in theory we should just be able just get on with our day and he'll be able to capture some special moments for us. The only thing I'm slightly worried about is that I could get a lil' tipsy and insist on having my picture taken in a billion different poses (please don't let this happen friends and family). It makes me think of the Him & Her wedding special. Which in a way is my ideal and worst ever wedding all in one. Yes yes, a part of me wants to stand up and sing 'Fields Of Gold' during the speeches.

Even though I was the anti-bride and only told him about all the things I didn't want or hated he was very charming and I'm very excited to have him on board for the day.

Our videographer is actually a friend of ours, who actually happens to also be a friend of Joabs.

Jamie Harding isn't strictly in the wedding business, but he is very talented. His show reel is more BAFTA material than wedding fair, and that's pretty exciting. My parents where the goofy 80's/90's parents who always had a huge clunky home video recorder in their hands. I used to watch their wedding video when I was a little kid (they actually had a very relaxed bbq wedding in the late 80's, it was the hottest day of the year and they all got changed into short shorts and vests for the reception) I hoped to be able to find it again but so far haven't had any luck. Anyway, I've always loved home videos and I'm really very happy our wedding will be on film.

So my dream team is taking shape, and they all seem to be rather handsome young men...totally unintentional obviously.

We are a day away from starting the year count down. It seems like a long time, but I know it won't be. I suppose I better take it up a gear from now on.

Summer xxx
