Coral Lake Garda Destination Wedding

Coral Lake Garda Destination Wedding

We have a bit of an overseas theme today, with a stunning Ireland wedding this morning and this afternoon we are headed to romantic Italy.

WWW readers Kayleigh and David tied the knot on the 10 th June 2014 beside the amazing scenery of Lake Garda. They kept their wedding simple focusing on the setting rather than detail. There were pretty maids in coral frocks, vibrant florals, ice cream and a fun carousel ride.

Kayleigh looked beautiful in a flowing sheer back gown, while David went for a quirky braces and bow tie look. Just be sure look out for the sunset shot at the end too.

Thanks so much to Caroline Potter Photography for sharing her lovely images with us this afternoon.

THE PROPOSAL | February 2012 whilst visiting friends who we had met in Australia, which is where we had met whilst travelling. David proposed while walking along Saltburn beach with our daughter and friends. Followed by a surfing session and champagne.

THE VISION | Relaxed romantic Italian afternoon surrounded by loved ones and Gelato! I love the architecture around Lake Garda, and as a photographer myself I was keen to have a lot of great background options for our photographs. Lake Garda has that fantastic mix of lake views and quirky archways and historic buildings.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We hired help in the form of a wedding planner named Pamela from Romantic weddings Lake Garda. An English lady living in Italy who helped with all the legal paperwork and made all the necessary arrangements for the day.

I did all the rest myself, with some great input from my bridesmaids and family. I was so grateful that so many family and friends were able to make it to Italy to join us.

BUDGET | Under £6000

THE VENUE | Scaligeri Castle, Torri del benaco Lake garda - in the lemon groves.

Followed by a champagne lunch and Dinner at Albergo Ristorante Gardesana, Torri del benaco.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Dress designer Linea Raffaelli. Hair comb custom made from vintage broached by Tilly Minx vintage.

Mum gave me a bracelet on the morning of the wedding, which I wore.

I had been given some earrings left to me by my late Father, which I had attached to the bouquet.

FINDING THE DRESS | Bought from a boutique bridal store in Cardiff on a day trip with bridesmaids. It was the last store and the last dress. Was not what I had planned to choose but who knows what will suit you until you try plus having to factor in the climate I would be wearing it in. Dress arrived extremely last minute!

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Ted baker trousers and waistcoat from Selfridges in Birmingham. Shoes from Debenhams. Bow tie from online store.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | Bridal entrance - instrumental version of 1000 years. Recessional song - instrumental of the beatles, here comes the sun. First dance - norah jones - come away with me.

My great friend Blanche read "The Lovley Dinosaur" by Edward Monkton.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Becky, Lucy (and Rosa who couldn't come for personal reasons).

We also had my daughter Martha as a flower girl, joined with Jasmine and Kristen.

THE FLOWERS | A charming local florist provided the bridal bouquet, button holes and table decorations. The colour scheme was green and coral. I had requested peonies and succulents but due to the high temperatures I was advised against peonies and instead had roses along with other flowers the florist had recommended.

THE CAKE | Traditional mille feuille (fresh fruit) Italian cake covered in fresh peaches, kiwis and blueberries. Made by a quaint local patisserie called Dolce Samy e Anna.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Was actually my art teacher from high school who is now a dear friend and fellow photographer. Caroline Potter photography.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR |Additional flowers/ table décor provided by florist same as mentioned above. Intentionally kept to a minimum as didn't want to detract from the scenery etc.

We provided guests with little stripy bags of rice to throw instead of confetti, as is the Italian tradition.

THE HONEYMOON | 1 night in a beautiful boutique hotel overlooking the lake called Hotel quercia belvedere.

3 days on the lake in Hotel Salo du Parc continued to explore the beautiful Lake especially the north plus some light reading around the pool.

Drove to Venice and spent 1 night and 2 days there at the hotel Pesaro palace kindly upgraded to their junior suite with champagne etc. enjoyed a night time gondola ride and took in the culture and history.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Being in such a beautiful place surrounded be my family and friends was incredible.

I really enjoyed us all catching the ferry to Toscolano Maderno to get gelato. Whilst here we nearly ended up with an unconscious groom due to a giant falling pine cone.

We really wanted a relaxed, fun feeling to the day, and planning in the trip together with the unexpected group merry - go round ride really helped to make it that way.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | There isn't always a need to fill your wedding day with things to do, entertainment etc. Give yourself time to relax and enjoy the day that you have planned, after all it is you getting married not everybody else.

I had seen so many other brides worry about all the small details but then comment that on the day they didn't even notice the diamante wine glasses etc so I planned with this in mind and insisted I wouldn't waste our money on things which were not significant. Plus we then had more to enjoy the honeymoon.
