#170: Protea Harvest

Written by: louise

Aren't these colours just gorgeous? Plummy shades are such a popular choice for this time of year, when temperatures begin to drop and the leaves begin to fall. On those gorgeous golden Autumn days a woodland wedding, with crunching leaves underfoot and the sun still warm enough for your guests, is a wonderful way to embrace the season.

At this time of year, proteas are one of my favourite flowers. They often get bad press, and admittedly they're not the prettiest, most romantic of blooms, but with gorgeous textures from the architectural petals of the dusky pink 'Pink Ice' to soft and pretty 'Blushing Brides' and bold and beautiful 'King Protea' they make a striking Autumnal addition to any bouquet or centrepiece. As the key ingredient of this week's board, I've paired them with rich berry shades and added a bohemian twist, a seventies-style lace wedding dress and floral crown with strong geometric lights hanging in the trees to add a more contemporary element. Keep a whimsical, romantic feel with trailing blush ribbons, soft pink linens and bridesmaids in dusky berry shades. For a September celebration add a pop of brighter pink to make the whole look pop, or switch for a darker purple-black shade as we move deeper into October.
