Nicole & Hilton's Elegant Neutral Wedding

Written by: louise

If you asked me what my all time favourite timeless wedding colour palette would be it would have to be sophisticated neutrals. A mix of ivory, oyster, blush and the softest hint of gold will never, ever go out of fashion and is guaranteed to always look chic. Nicole is one stylish bride, so it's no wonder she chose this elegant combination to celebrate her marriage to outdoors-y groom Hilton. Using shades of white and touches of hessian and twine, Nicole added interest and texture throughout the décor to ensure it's anything but bland. All white flowers, displayed in clear vases with pretty tableware finish the look. Her dress is stunning, with a demure-yet-sexy sheer back and long cathedral veil, stylish maids in stone coloured maxi's and the cutest flower girls and pageboys you ever did see, we're loving their ballerina-inspired look! Their day is so stylish it hurts, complimented beautifully by photography from Carolien & Ben.

Hilton and I met through mutual friends at a party. We went on our first date about a week later and have been together ever since. That was 5 years ago! I think we pretty much knew from very early on that we would get married; it was just a matter of the right time. It was when falling in love with Hilton that I realised the saying 'opposites attract' was really true. Hilton loves the outdoors and his favourite past time is fishing, whereas I was never one for sand and mud. However, I now can't think of anything better that spending a lazy day with him outdoors, even helping him clean his Koi pond! Not to say he hasn't picked up any of my interests, he loves getting actively involved when I'm baking in the kitchen and I do see a twinkle in his eye when we go out shopping! I really do believe we bring out the best in each other and we have both grown so much in our time together and have learnt so much, not just about each other, but about ourselves too. I am so looking forward to creating a home and life with him! Hilton pretty much gave me free reign when it came to our wedding décor. His biggest concern was that the food and entertainment were good! I always wanted a natural wedding with a muted, neutral palette. I loved the idea of an all-white wedding, something that was timeless and elegant. I also didn't want typical wedding décor. Instead I chose a rustic hessian ribbon and twine which I used on all elements of my wedding day stationery as well as to tie my floral arrangements together. My table décor was all white with a mix of white and glass vases in varying sizes with contemporary arrangements of white orchids, St. Joseph's lilies, tulips, roses, arium lilies, lisianthus, anthuriums and gypsophelia, as well as crystal and silver candle stands and lots and lots of candles! This elegant simplicity was also reflected in the wedding day attire. I wanted my hair and make-up and that of my bridesmaids to be natural and soft. My dress fitted me perfectly and I felt amazing in it! I chose a stone colour for my bridesmaids which I really think complimented the overall wedding. Hilton and his groomsmen wore classic black suits and ties. I had five beautiful flower girls in gorgeous tulle dresses and a handsome little pageboy. To keep my guests entertained I had a fun photo booth and all-white candy station and in keeping with our Portuguese heritage we had an accordion player stroll around entertaining guests with traditional music. We served a plated 4 course meal and guests had a choice of two mains. For the party we had a live band. It was important that our guests enjoyed the day as much as we did! It really is true when people say your wedding day goes by so quickly. At times it honestly felt so surreal. But it was the most beautiful day I could have hoped for. We were married in the same church that my parents were married in 35 years ago. And I couldn't help fight the tears when saying our vows. When standing on the altar with Hilton, it felt like it was just the two of us. We were fortunate to celebrate this special day with 230 of our close family and friends which made it a really great, joyous occasion! Although there were small little things that may have not gone to plan, I would never change our day. It was truly blessed! Don't let the little things overwhelm you. Things will go wrong in the planning and even on the day. Remain calm and deal with it as quickly as you can and then move on. I am a perfectionist so had to learn this fast. Remember this is yours and your fiancée's day and so you need to stay true to what you as a couple want for this special day. Don't lose sight of the purpose and meaning of the day. Remain focused on each other. Breathe, relax, take in as much as you can and remember to enjoy it!
