Why you should invest in a pre-wedding or engagement shoot with b.team expert Anneli Marinovich | BLOVED Blog

Hello b.loved readers! For my June b.team post I've decided to focus on pre-wedding shoots (otherwise known as engagement shoots). Even though pre-wedding shoots are additional to my wedding photography collections, I always encourage my couples to invest in having one, so they can make the most of the lead up to the big day! Not only do these shoots give couples the opportunity to get to know their photographer (and vice versa), but it's also a great way of learning to relax when being photographed, so that when the big day arrives, you're not concerned about your couple portraits at all!

Each wedding /portrait photographer will have their own techniques and style of shooting. For me it's always crucial to help my couples feel as comfortable as possible. The more relaxed you feel, the more natural the images will look! With a little bit of direction, I like to make the most of the available light, the location and my couple.

When it comes to location, I encourage my couples to pick a spot tied to their relationship & them as a couple - i.e. where you met for the first time / your favourite street market in London / the beach where you spend most of your weekends etc. I then give them my input on the best time of day to shoot in this location / other considerations to make the most of the light etc.

Most couples I have worked with, have never had a professional couple shoot, so the pre-wedding shoot is also a great way of giving them 30-40 beautiful images which they can then use in the lead up to the wedding (i.e. save the dates) or on the wedding day (i.e. table place names / guest book alternative).

For some couples having a pre-wedding shoot may not seem like a priority and that's totally fine, but if you do decide to book one, make the most of it - speak to your photographer about the best possible location for your shoot, available hair & make up artists (if you want to look your best), outfits and how you can make the shoot your own! Most of all, have fun with it!
