"My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2" has its director. Kirk Jones ("Nanny McPhee" and "Waking Ned Devine") is on board to direct the sequel to the 2002 hit comedy for Universal Pictures, according to a statement from the studio.

Nia Vardalos will return to star in and write the sequel, which she announced in May. Rita Wilson and Playtone partners Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman will produce, and Paul Brooks, Scott Niemeyer, Steven Shareshian and Vardalos will executive produce. John Corbett is expected to reprise his role as her Vardalos' character's husband, Ian Miller.

The sequel will feature a new family secret and an even bigger wedding for the Portokalos family. "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" became the highest-grossing romantic comedy in history in 2002 when it made $241 million in the domestic box office. Vardalos was nominated for an Oscar for the film's screenplay, which was originally based on a play she wrote about her early life.
