Tuesday Tutorial: How to Curl Hair Using a Three-Pronged Waver

As most of you probably already know, we're big fans of curled hair. From glam, retro curls to natural, beachy waves, we've covered it all and are always on the hunt for the latest and greatest curled creation. Our latest obsession is the undone boho look, which can be achieved a variety of ways. While some go for the method of sleeping in braided hair and unraveling it in the morning, we've discovered a quicker way to get this romantic 'do: the three-pronged waver. This three-barreled, claw-like contraption can seem intimidating and difficult to maneuver at first glance, but, when done correctly, it can produce miraculous results. Find out how to work this waver the right way!

Step 1. Make sure hair is tangle-free by running a comb or brush through it. The smoother the hair, the cleaner the curl.

Step 2.
Apply a heat-protectant to the hair (we love Matrix Heat Resist Iron Tamer Smoothing Lotion), focusing on the hair's mid-shaft area and ends. Don't overdo it - a little goes a long way!

Step 3.
Separate a two-inch section of hair and clamp down on it with the three-pronged waver and hold for a few seconds. Don't start right at the root! Instead, start the wave about an inch from the root to avoid weird, bubbly waves at the top of your head. After unclamping the curl move down and repeat the motion on the rest of the section until the entire piece is wavy. For an undone look, leave the ends of the hair (the last inch or so) untouched.

Step 4. Wave the rest of the hair and gently finger comb it to loosen and separate the curls. Lightly spritz the hair with setting spray or hair spray and you're good to go! We recommend Pureology Strengthening Control Zero Dulling Spray.
