As you can imagine, I have many customers who ask me for help when wording their wedding invitations. Most of you will have never done this before and although we'll often have received wedding invitations how many of us really pay much attention to exactly how they are worded!?
My initial help for customers is to send 'wording forms' along with their booking forms to fill in.
This will give me the basic information I need in most cases to lay out the wording on their wedding invitations.

Most wedding invitations will follow one of three formats ...

1. Formal

These will generally be written from the point of view of the bride's parents, or both parents, as they are the one's hosting (and often paying for) the wedding.
Traditionally the wording will go something like this ...

request the pleasure of the company of

Mr & Mrs Joseph & Jennifer Bloggs

at the wedding of their daughter

on Saturday 15th July 2015

at St Peters & St Pauls Church

Kingsbury, Tamworth, Staffs

with a reception to follow at Lea Marston Hotel

Please R.S.V.P by 15th March 2015

to Mr & Mrs Smith, 115 Tamworth Road, Kingsbury, Staffs B78 2GG

Changes can obviously be made to accommodate divorced or separated parents and if both sets of parents are hosting.

Deco Glamour Range by Knots & Kisses

Often the most popular way of wording invitations at the moment, I find more and more couples are opting for this option which essentially gives an indication that the couple are hosting but with help from both set of parents. This is often the case these days ... either the parents are paying but the bride and groom really want the invitation to come from themselves and not be overly formal, or all parties are contributing money towards the wedding and wish to be recognised on the wedding invitation.

So wording may work as below ...

request the pleasure of the company of

on the occasion of their marriage

on Saturday 15th July 2015

at St Peters & St Pauls Church

Kingsbury, Tamworth, Staffs

with a reception to follow at Lea Marston Hotel

This third option is perfect if you are hosting and paying for the wedding yourselves. I've laid out some sample wording below, but to be honest with the informal option you can pretty much go as informal as you want ... throw out the rule book and make the wording fun and light hearted if you don't want to follow the traditional format ... it is your wedding after all!

Hopefully this gives you an idea of how to word and lay out your wedding invitations.

Obviously other things may be added ... "Carriages at midnight" to let your guests know what time to book a taxi, "Bring Your Wellies" perfect for a farm wedding .. and the always controversial "We are sorry but due to strict numbers at our venue we are unable to accommodate any children other than immediate family."
