Intimate Industrial Engagement Photos - Polka Dot Bride

Sydney's Cockatoo Island provides the most incredible industrial backdrop for photos and Kat and Tim's photos turned out to be a beautiful mix of intimate industrial engagement photos that Lina Hayes shared with us today. She remembers, "I met up with Kat and Tim on a sunny Sunday afternoon to catch a ferry to Cockatoo Island and celebrate their engagement. Highlights included invading the territory of a nesting bird ... and then the territory of hundreds of nesting birds + photo-bombing a tourists' group photo + being able to get a glimpse of the amazing love these two beautiful people share."

Kat tells the story of how they met. "We met at church. I was 17 and Tim was 20. I liked Tim for about a year before he returned the same feelings. He found out I liked him shortly after we met but said that he was sorry and just wanted to be friends. So for a year we were just friends all the while I was hoping he would change his mind and eventually he did! I was so so shocked and happy when he asked me out on our first date."

On what he loves about Kat, Tim says, "She's incredible. She's the most caring and compassionate person I've ever met with so much love and dedication to those she cares about."

"When we met and I was teenage girl with a crush on an older boy, he first realised I liked him during a game that we were playing at our Church's youth group on a Friday night. The aim of the game was that there was a large room set up like a maze using couches and chairs with all the lights turned out. You had to try and crawl from one end of the room to the other without being spotted by people with torches. I kept following Tim through the maze because I was trying to subtly be close to him without him realising why. Much to my embarrassment he did realise why and only told me this after we had been dating for a few months."

On what she loves about Tim, Kat says, "I love everything about him! Even the things that annoy me because all of those things make him who he is. I love how passionate he is about helping other people to be the best they can be and how he has helped me to truly value and love myself. I love how no matter what he is always there for me and how we always fun when we are together."

Kat tells the story of how Tim proposed. "It was our 5 year anniversary and Tim took the whole day off to plan a surprise day of activities. I was so nervous thinking that he might propose but I wasn't sure. The first place we went to was Rose Bay via a sea plane flight. It was so beautiful with amazing views of Sydney Harbour. We then got back from the flight and we were taken by boat to Shark Island where we had a picnic. We set up our picnic with a great view of the bridge and Opera House. We were the only people on the whole island. After having some food and drink I was excited to open presents and anxious he might propose through a gift. Tim told me he had three presents for me and the first was a song. He brought his guitar along and sang me a song he had written himself. As he sang the song I thought he might propose through the lyrics but the song finished and he hadn't proposed so I relaxed again.

We continued to enjoy our picnic but I couldn't wait long till I asked for the second present. The second present was a scrapbook he made of our relationship. He had included photos and written things like what he loved about me, special memories and what he enjoyed doing together. I read through the book as quickly as I could because I though he might propose in writing on the last page, but I got to the last page and there was no proposal. I relaxed again.

Then finally I asked for the third gift as the tension in me was rising. For the third gift he told me he had a special Pandora charm (I collect them) to celebrate our 5 years. As he went to grab the charm box I thought he might turn a round with the ring instead but no he turned around with a Pandora box complete with the in-store gift wrapping so I knew it couldn't possibly be the ring. I unwrapped the paper and opened the box and the engagement ring WAS inside! I was so surprised I kept thinking he was going to propose but then he totally surprised me when I didn't think it was going to happen. He told me to stand up and he got down on one knee and proposed. I was so excited I was literally jumping up and down for joy. Turns out he had carefully unwrapped the Pandora box took out the charm, replaced it with the ring and then wrapped it up again!"
