Fun Loving & Rustic Chic Autumn Wedding - Whimsical Wonderland...

Being a part of the wedding industry themselves, Charlotte and Neil breezed through the wedding planning. They knew the type of wedding they wanted and created the perfect rustic chic celebration.

They chose to marry in October 2013 holding their ceremony at Sledmere House followed by a reception at Ambassador Spa Hotel in beautiful Yorkshire. The autumn colours were so very striking and perfectly captured by Steve Gerrard in their couple portraits.

I especially love Charlotte's bridal look, she donned Eden by Jenny Packham with the prettiest hair accessory also by Jenny Packham. Neil was suited and booted in Reiss while the bridesmaids looked super pretty in pale silver frocks.

Thanks so very much today to the amazing Steve Gerrard for sharing his images with us.

THE PROPOSAL |I'd designed the ring months before the proposal and luckily have a friend who's a jeweller, who made the ring for me. A lot of effort went into that ring and keeping it a secret! ;) We had holiday to Thailand booked in January 2013, so that was the perfect opportunity to propose. I finally popped the question on our first night at our first Thai destination, Ao Nang. There were a few tears on both sides and she said "yes"! Result!

THE VISION |Rustic Chic!

THE PLANNING PROCESS |We both work in the wedding industry, so really enjoyed the planning process. As we had both been to so many weddings before, we had a very clear idea of what liked and didn't like so much. Luckily we agreed on pretty much everything too! ;)

THE VENUE | Sledmere House, in Driffield, for the ceremony and drinks reception. Then on to Charlotte's hotel, The Ambassador Spa Hotel in Scarborough, for food and party time!

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES |As soon as I saw the Jenny Packham 'Eden' dress online, I was in love! The dress was slim fitting with a vintage feel, which was exactly what I wanted. The "Eden" was the first dress I tried on in the first wedding dress shop I visited, I just knew. When I tried the dress on for the first time, the words "wow" left my mouth, and this is exactly how I felt when I wore it. I topped off the dress with a simple floor length veil, Jenny Packham headpiece and shoes. (Bride's dress & accessories + the bridesmaids' dresses were all from The White Room, Sheffield.)

GROOM'S ATTIRE | I'd had a vague idea about the style of suit for a while but struggled to find anything suitable in my local area for ages. Charlotte then suggested Reiss and I bought the first suit I saw in the shop! The pics describe it better than I could; I know nothing of fine tailoring! ;) I just knew that I definitely didn't want my wedding suit to look like I'd walked out of a board meeting.

THE READINGS & MUSIC |Charlotte chose a passage from Jane Eyre and I chose one from the Amber Spyglass, by Philip Pullman. Charlotte's sister, Harriet, read her's and my sister, Becky, read mine. They were difficult to remain dry-eyed for!

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS |Charlotte's sister, Harriet. Her best friend, Jen and my sister, Becky. My sister's daughter, Anna, was our fabulous flower girl!

THE FLOWERS |Through work, we both know Kirsty Berridge, from Minnie Bee's Floral Design, really well and she was our one and only choice for the job. She's competed at Chelsea Flower Show the last two years, so it was a no-brainer really! I'm quite green fingered at home and Charlotte loves a lot of the David Austin roses I've planted in our garden, so we knew roughly what we would like the style and varieties to be. However, we didn't want to be too overly specific with Kirsty, so we told her what we liked and let her surprise us on the day. She didn't disappoint!

THE CAKE |We had 5 or 6 cakes! The other guitarist in my band, Jon, runs his family tea room business and is a cake maker extraordinaire! We had a small traditional fruit cake, a few tea room style cakes and then the crowning glory; 'The Incredicake!'. I've got a crazy sweet tooth, so asked Jon to make the cake of my dreams, with as many fattening ingredients as possible. He did.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER |Being one myself (Neil), the photographer was so important to us both. Steve was our first choice and we were so pleased when he wasn't already booked. We both wanted to let Steve do his thing and just knew he'd do an amazing job. The photos speak for themselves and will continue to do so when we're both old and grey!

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR |We designed the table plan, menus and table name cards ourselves, amongst a few other things. Being super into wildlife, I (Neil) wanted each table to have a different bird's name and we chose pictures from one of my ancient bird books for those. As we knew we wanted the room to be full of flowers, with a rustic chic theme, we left the rest of the decorating to the following: Ambassador Spa Hotel Team, Alex - owner of 'Homebird House' and Kirsty - Minnie Bees Floral Design. We wanted a big surprise when we walked in the room!

THE HONEYMOON | Our friends moved to New Zealand a couple of years before our wedding and planned to tie the knot themselves in January 2014, so we thought it the perfect opportunity to kill two birds with one stone and have our honeymoon over in NZ. Whilst we were going that far, we thought why not add on a few stops in the US too?! After NZ, we visited LA, Yosemite and San Francisco and then drove the Pacific Coast Highway back to LA, before flying to New York for a few days. It really was the 'mega-moon' of a lifetime. Amazing.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS |The ceremony at the stately home, classical music, Pride and Prejudice feel. The 30/40min car journey back from Sledmere, with a bottle of champers! Partying back at the hotel to our DJs.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Be yourselves - have your wedding, your way. Take some time together, alone when you can eg car journey.
