The African Styled Shoot - Wedding Friends

The African Styled Shoot - Wedding Friends

It's always more than just a dusty road...

The dusty African paths and dry grass has an unusual charm, it could just be the way the bold African sunlight catches those tall blades of grass and creates a magical making everything sparkle. Tyme Photography set out to capture the essence that is Africa, and this is what they brought to the table.

Rather than trying to recreate what is trending internationally for this styled shoot, we
decided to embrace all things local instead. We took advantage of our surroundings, using
everything we could find from seed pods and branches to thorns and linens, while keeping it distinctly simple.

With a little help from friends we managed to put together a shoot that embraces some of the things we love about living in Africa:

Wide open spaces | Diversity | Texture | Sunsets | Soul

When we started shooting weddings we shot our first wedding on film! Yes, it was our first
love and I think it really taught us to be patient with developing our craft. Over the years we moved to digital but a part of us always longs for the honesty of film.

We thought this shoot would be a perfect time to test our skills again. So, lucky for us, a
friend offered us his Hasselblad 500C to play around with, and that's exactly what we did.
Armed with 5 rolls of film, we headed out with no expectation but a lot of excitement to get
back to the basics.

Some lessons we learned from shooting with the Hasselblad:
1. Shooting digital has made us trigger happy
2. Shooting film forces you to take your time, think before you take the shot
3.There's no harm in asking your subject to wait while you load more film
4. It's not so much about what you're shooting with but more about how you're using it
5. There is an honesty and poetry about shooting film that you can't get with digital
6. There is an instant gratification you can't get with film
