Washi Tape Projects for Weddings

We've all seen the cheerful rolls of washi tape beckoning us in the craft store. Of course, you would love to fill your basket with floral and polka dotted tape, but what to do with it? Here are 15 washi tape projects perfect for your wedding decor and details.

Perhaps the chicest washi tape DIY I have ever seen is the stationery above. Done with a steady hand, tracing paper, and a precision blade, these washi tape cards would be the sweetest bridal shower thank you notes ever.

Want to play around with washi for your decor and favors? Buy rolls of tape in your palette or that supports your theme and decorate a monogram for your welcome table (below, left) or even the notebooks for your vows (below, right).

One of the most precious (and popular) washi tape projects out there is mini-bunting for your cake topper (below). Seriously adorable for vintage events, this craft is really, really easy and won't take more than a few minutes.

Washi tape centerpiece details can add a happy dose of flair to your tables. Rim terracotta pots filled with succulents with either a single strip of washi or a handful of tiny pieces (as shown above, left). You can also do this with spraypainted vases and bottles (above, right).

Just because the sun is going down doesn't mean you can't see all the festive colors! Especially if you are throwing a very playful, colorful event (such as a fiesta theme), cover votives in pieces of bright washi tape (below). You'll be amazed how great it looks with the glow from the tea lights!

While we realize it is perfectly acceptable to just buy cocktail umbrellas, these beyond-cute washi tape versions are fantastic. Buy a myriad of different patterns and your guests won't have to worry about getting their cocktails mixed up at the table!

I recently saw an usher with a ribbon-style boutonniere similar to the one below and just couldn't get over how great it was. Stamp "Hello!" or the usher's name in the center, and your guests will have an automatic conversation starter with the fella escorting them to their seats.

Washi tape can brighten up the smallest of details at your reception. String family photos from twine attached with washi tape covered clothespins (above). Or you can simply decorate plain tags with a couple of small strips (below). These crafts are very easy to produce well (I promise-no Pinterest fails here!).

For a guest book alternative, encourage your loved ones to take a picture and add it to the book with a message. Set out rolls of washi tape in complementary colors to affix their photos. Tip: Have your bridesmaids and groomsmen leave the first few messages so that the rest of your guests can follow suit.

If you want your guest book to be less permanent and have loose components, have your friends and family attach notes with washi tape covered magnets. Later you can decide how to display your collection of postcards, notes, or photos.

Looking for a brilliant and affordable DIY favor? Make your own coaster sets for guests. A set of four often works out to less than a dollar, whether you use cardboard, cork, or plain bathroom tiles. Use different widths and shapes if you are feeling crafty-confident. Otherwise, just go with basic stripes of your favorite designs.
