How To Use Pinterest To Help Plan Your Wedding

How To Use Pinterest To Help Plan Your Wedding

via

With a whopping 72.8 million users (and counting!), it's no wonder that more and more brides and grooms-to-be are using Pinterest to help them plan their big day. In this handy guide, you will learn some helpful hints and tips to help you to get the most out of Pinterest whilst planning your wedding.

So... what actually is Pinterest?

If you don't know what Pinterest is, it's a uniquely useful social network that enables its users to browse and save, or 'pin', images to their own virtual pin board to view whenever they wish. The great thing is that you don't actually have to buy anything that you choose to pin. As an example, here is what we see when we log into our Pinterest account:

As you can see, the images that we are welcomed with are mainly wedding themed (which is great considering we are a wedding stationary company). This is because Pinterest gets to know the type of images that you pin most of the time and organises a collection of them for you to browse when you log into your account (which is quite clever really!). In fact, many brides choose to simply pin items that they find inspiring, and find something similar for their own wedding, so don't be put off by the location or price of some of the items that are recommended to you!

Once you have logged in and had a look at some of the pictures that Pinterest recommends for you, you can go onto your profile. Ours looks like this at the moment:

As you can see, we have arranged our images into smaller sections or 'boards' to make it easier for us (and you!) to browse through. For example; if you have chosen to do your own make-up for your big day and you are looking for some tips and encouragement, we have created a 'Bridal Make-Up Inspiration' board specifically designed to inspire you.

It is worth noting that Pinterest now has a waiting list to join (talk about exclusive!), but if you can't wait to get started all you have to do is get an invite from someone who already has a Pinterest account. This can obviously be from a friend or if you don't know anyone who has one, try using Twitter to find someone who will give you an invite!

Follow some Pinterest accounts to inspire you

One of the best ways to get started on Pinterest is to start following some accounts that regularly post images that you can pin to your pin boards. If you would like to follow us (and we recommend that you do!), our Pinterest username is brideandgroomdirect.

Download the 'Pin It' button

Brides-to-be are busy people! So you want to be able to save time by not having to log into Pinterest every time you see something you would like to pin. Well, you don't need to worry as the lovely people over at Pinterest have already thought of this and created the 'pin it' button. Simply go onto https://about.pinterest.com/en/goodies and scroll down to the pin it button section to download it. After you have downloaded the button, you will find it in the top right hand corner of your browser window.

Now it will be even easier to pin anything that inspires you online!

Create Mood Boards to Experiment with Different Colours and Themes

When you are planning your wedding, you will most likely have a variety of ups and downs. You might even flitter between themes and colour schemes in the very early stages of planning. This is where mood boards really come into their own.

This user has chosen to create a pin board for each different type of wedding that takes her fancy, which is a great idea if you are struggling to find inspiration to have a theme of your own!

Create Boards for Certain Subjects

For a more practical approach to using Pinterest to organise your wedding, it is a good idea to organise your boards by subject:

Some Extra Tips to Help:

  • Don't necessarily pin within your budget! Remember that there is no obligation to actually buy any of the stuff you pin, so you can use your boards just for inspiration and find a cheaper version for your big day.
  • Get crafty! Create a board specifically for DIY wedding items.
  • Don't forget that your pin boards are a flow of ideas! Nothing is set in stone so experiment with different themes and have fun!
