For many modern brides, floral wedding invitations sound a bit too traditional. Maybe a little too sweet. Perhaps they even remind them of their parents' 1980s wedding invitations. But today's floral invitations are very pretty and completely chic (I mean, seriously, just look at the floral archway example above). Here are a few different trends in floral wedding invitations that we think you will appreciate!

Watercolor Illustrations

We recently showed you the latest and greatest in the world of watercolor wedding invitations, and floral design is a huge element with this craze. It's elegant and light and with the addition of cool fonts (especially like the metallic script below) can make a thoroughly modern statement.

The great thing about watercolor illustrations is that you can hint at the flowers that will play a role in your wedding (like the anemones below), or just show off all the colors in your palette.

For an extra pop, find watercolor-style floral invites with lined envelopes to really emphasize the hues (below).

Nostalgia, Not Kitsch

We love updated interpretations of classic themes like vintage and retro. This is probably why we adore these darling little invitations full of sweet flowers, without being too cloying. Below, this Kraft paper invite uses vintage-inspired font and tiny, bright flowers.

Do you have a muted or pastel color palette for your vintage event? Use one of these pretty floral invites, either with the flowers featured boldly on the envelope lining (below, left) or to create a header and footer for the text (below, right).

Moody Palettes

But flowers aren't all bubblegum pink and mint green. As brides start to plan their fall and winter weddings, we are digging these moody, deep-toned floral invitations that we seem to be seeing everywhere lately.

From botany textbook-inspired illustrations (above) to backgrounds perfect for a woodsy wedding (below), these floral invitations show off the power of dark greens, garnets, and mustard yellows.

Absolutely perfect for a modern reception are these deep red and blush blooms set against a black background (below).

If you want your floral invitation to use bolder colors, but still have the breezy feel of a summer wedding, try one with a watercolor design and broad, scrawling font (below). It instantly has more of a relaxed, laidback vibe than the other examples above.

Ink Sketches

Another trending invitation design element is the use of ink sketches. Usually in dark colors on light paper, these designs look stunning all on their own, or accompanied by metallic details (below). This navy ink sketch below is perfect for couples who want a navy and gold palette (hard to find in a world of black and gold invitations).
