Natural Meaningful & Sweet Colourful Barn Wedding - Whimsical...

via

Good morning and happy Monday. I hope you are feeling relaxed and revived after the weekend, ready to take on the week ahead. Firstly let me totally brighten your day with a super loved up couple and their joyous wedding celebration.

WWW readers Nick and Nicola tied the knot on the 2nd May 2015 at Tower Hill Barns in North Wales. Natural, simple, small and intimate was order of the day and it worked out just so. I love the rustic barn setting and all the sweet touches. Hearts and flowers aplenty, with a heart wedding cake, heart place names and colourful blooms in bottles.

Nicola looked amazing in her chic gown which she accessorised with an embellished caplet and sequin belt, while the boys looked very dapper in tweed and navy suits. Gorgeous.

Thanks today goes to Emma Boileau Photography for sharing such divine images with us.

THE PROPOSAL | Nick proposed to me on holiday in Venice. After eating some traditional Italian street food he managed to find a quiet square where he sat me on a wall next to the canal and asked me, "do you know what would make this day more special?".........I replied, "another calzone?"

THE VISION | We wanted something that felt very natural and simple, something small and intimate. The date was massively important to me as I wanted to get married on the same day my Nan and Grandad got married 70 years earlier (they got the news the war was over whilst on their honeymoon in North Wales).

THE PLANNING PROCESS | Nick took a step back with planning, I think both of us kind of hoped things would fall into place and luckily they did. We didn't go to any shows and I didn't buy a single bridal magazine as I felt there was a wealth of inspiration on the Internet and on various blogs (including this one) I have a design background so I set about designing the wedding invites, which was by far my favourite part.

BUDGET | Under £8,000 if at all possible.

THE VENUE | Tower Hill Barns Llangollen. We liked the idea of a barn with beautiful outdoor space but looking for a venue within our budget was quite hard especially as converted barns are quite trendy at the moment. We found one we loved, but it was changing owners and the new owners had big plans to build a brand new barn onto the existing quite small one. The plans looked beautiful and we were excited to discover it was due to be ready for our date; so we took a chance and put down a deposit. We found out later down the line that we would be the first wedding after the refurb which was pretty nerve wrecking for us and the owners.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | The dress was a bargain in a sample sale and then I accessorised it with a caplet from BHLDN, a sequin belt and shoes from Mel by Melissa; my shoes had glittery wings on the heels. I wanted to keep jewellery to a minimum as the caplet and belt were quite sparkly and I didn't want to over complicate the outfit.

FINDING THE DRESS | Finding the dress was quite pain free (in the end). Originally I'd booked into some dress shops in Manchester with my mum and sisters but I didn't really like the whole process, I found it stressful and uncomfortable, nothing I tried on felt like me so we ended up giving up and going to lunch. It wasn't until a while later that I casually, and with no expectations, went to a sample sale with my sister, who spotted the dress for me hidden amongst the rails. It was simple and suited me and what I loved was that I was able to go about accessorising it and putting my own style stamp on it.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Suit was Kin by John Lewis with a Ted Baker waistcoat and boots.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | I walked down the aisle whilst my brother in law played our favourite song, Death Cab for Cutie - I Will Follow You Into the Dark' on the ukulele. One of Nick's groomsmen read 'He's Not Perfect' by Bob Marley and his sister read 'Sooner or Later' (anonymous). Our first dance was to a version of La Vie on Rose sung by Daniella Andrade.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | My two sisters were my bridesmaids. It was harder finding their outfits than mine, but eventually we found a lovely dusky pink dress from Boden. We then had two coral sashes made and matched with coral wedges to finish them off.

THE FLOWERS | The bouquets and buttonholes were put together by Hobo florist in Oswestry. We wanted quite a natural rustic look: my bouquet featured freesias, lisianthus, hypericum berries, roses, thistles and yellow craspedia balls amongst others. Tied onto my bouquet I had a tiny brass frame with a picture of Nick's Dad and my sisters had pictures of our Grandmothers.

The men's button holes had hypericum berries, thistles, yellow craspedia balls, St Pierre and foliages, all bound with twine and the ladies had roses and hypericum berries.

Over the course of the year we collected vintage and new bottles for centrepieces and as we wanted it to look quite natural. This allowed us to buy different flowers from local supermarkets the day before the wedding as they didn't need much arranging in the bottles. This kept the cost down quite a bit.

THE CAKE | My very talented sister Joanne made the wedding cake. It was three tiers of chocolate and vanilla sponge, with the bottom layer filled with smarties inside and was covered in lots of glittery pink hearts, it also had one blue heart on the back which was to make up for the fact that I had to shoot Nick down on an Everton themed cake.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | I fell in love with Emma Boileau's photography from the moment I saw her work; I'm so pleased she was able to photograph our wedding. For me getting the right photographer was up there with the right dress as those pictures will be around forever, and that is not something that should be taken lightly.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | I wanted décor to be quite simple, but with a splash of colour and this mostly came across in the array of flowers we chose for the centrepieces. We bought a selection of colourful honeycomb balls to hang, however when we went the day before to decorated the new barn it was so beautiful it didn't need anything adding to it so we ended up using them in the old barn as splash of colour.

For favours we decided to buy lots of 250ml Belvoir drinks in different flavours, along side these we made drinks tokens so guests could get a measure from the bar and make a cocktail with their belvoir drinks. This went down very well. I made laser cut name tags that we tied around the bottles with a stripy straw, the name tags are something I've done as gifts before so thought they'd make a great keep sake.

THE HONEYMOON | Three days after the wedding we flew to America to do a little road trip, starting in Florida and driving up to Savannah and Charlston stopping at different places on the way. It was perfect and although I wasn't sure about going straight after the wedding (Nick planned the whole thing) I'm so glad we did as it made the whole wedding feel epic and completely unforgettable.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Having my 93 year old grandad there on our wedding day, his anniversary, made me so incredibly happy. It was very emotional as we weren't sure it would be possible due to his health but I'm so thankful he was able see me get married and now I have some beautiful photos to cherish forever. I'm so glad that we now get to not only celebrate our anniversary but we will be celebrating theirs too.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Don't be too rigid with plans as you'll only be disappointed if they don't turn out the way you wanted. Up until the day before the wedding we were supposed to be getting married outside but it was so cold and wet we had to change last minute, I'm just so glad there was an option to do the ceremony inside.
