Beyond the hearstopping images and the epic workshops... much past happy memories preserved on film for newlyweds... there lies a strong community in film photography amongst the industry professionals themselves. This is another reason why we love film: the artists who shoot film are passionate about the craft and passionate about the community side. Film photographer Carla Gates recently decided to step into the film world and we love this European inspirational shoot at RiverOaks Charleston ...

From Carla Gates: "After a love affair from afar with the images of so many film greats, I decided late last year to brave the unknown to make some of my own, and what a great journey it's been! My heart has been opened and my boundaries stretched to tell a deeper story, and my love for simplicity has grown immensely. The most unexpected gift though has been the awesome relationships with other film photographers....a fellowship of kindred spirits. That is how this shoot came to life; a group of film lovers who came together around a passion for our craft.

It began with the most romantic of cities for our location, Charleston, SC. From the architecture to the cobblestone and the moss draped trees ....the city is so rich in history there appear to be treasures around every corner! Our venue, RiverOaks Charleston not only illustrates all of the wonderful charm of the city, but adds to it a European Elegance that is understated yet refined, which was the feel for this shoot. The team at RiverOaks along with Simone Gebsattel Design have the warmest hearts and were an absolute pleasure to work with as they effortlessly brought to life such beautiful backdrops...each niche having a simple, handcrafted, organic touch that embodied the elegance of European Living. We began the day inside by capturing a more intimate time with a bride enjoying a turkish foot bath in a beautifully feminine robe by Shop Gossamer with natural hair and makeup by Tasha Juve Salon Studio. Then we moved outside to capture her with her groom amidst the lovely landscape of RiverOaks, garnished with Parisian tablescapes, flowers, and food crafted by the fantastic RiverOaks Charleston and Simone Gebsattel Design. I was amazed by how wonderfully the bride's romantic Astrid and Mercedes gown so perfectly mirrored the spanish moss hanging in the trees. And finally were the small details that added the finishing touches: Stationary by Amanda Day Rose, a lovely mint ring box from The Mrs. Box, bridal jewelry by Glitz and Love and ribbon from Silk and Willow. It was a day for dreams and we all got to share it together. I wasn't sure of the horizon when I began this journey into film but I have to say, I'm certainly enjoying the view." Vendor Details
