Is your sweetie whisking you away to the Maldives for a luxurious honeymoon? After all, if it's good enough for William and Kate's romantic getaways, then it's worthy for your special trip. In this Asian nation (located off the coast of India), expect plenty of sand and surf, fascinating island culture, and amazing resorts. Like other countries in this region, the Maldives is a perfect vacation spot for U.S. couples getting married in the dead of winter. The weather will be absolutely beautiful and a lovely respite from the brutal cold back home.

Here are a few "can't miss" stops on your honeymoon!

Just a few degree north of the equator, Alimatha Island is renowned for its gorgeous dive sites. Beginners can either take a scuba tour, or choose to snorkel in shallow waters. Either way, you will see vibrant sea life, so bring that waterproof camera!

Couples who have some experience scuba diving will also want to check out the shipwrecked vessel, The Maldives Victory. It's located between Male and Hulhule and you'll find plenty of experienced tours headed there. Not only are the remnants of the ship amazing, but the coral reef surrounding it is bright and colorful. As awesome as this is though, this is not the best situation for beginners due to more challenging diving conditions.

History buffs and museum fans will be interested in visiting the Old Friday Mosque. However, you should be aware that there are rules regarding non-Muslim visitors. First, you need permission to enter from one of the ministry officials at the mosque. Second, whether you are granted access or not, you should be conservatively well-dressed and exceedingly polite. Inside you will find artifacts dating back to the 14th century and outside you can tour a remarkable cemetery.

Local market near your hotel? These little spots are fun places to go people-watch and appreciate local culture. It should come as no surprise that the most popular on these islands are the fish markets, but for those who want to skip the up close and personal view of their dinner, you'll also find plenty of stalls selling souvenirs and handmade wares. Some of the best markets are located in and around Male, the capital (pictured above).
