I found myself taking in Ann Demeulemeester's spring '16 showing across the runway from venerated street-style documentarian Adam Katz Sinding of Le 21ème, a longtime fan of what began as an eponymous line and is now in the hands of designer Sébastien Meunier.

I watched Katz Sinding taking pictures from his seat and afterward, I asked him if he'd mind sharing some of them with us here-as well as his perspective on the season's dark birds of paradise.

"I've wanted to attend the Ann Demeulemeester show since my first Paris Fashion Week in February 2012, but could never secure an invite," the New York-based, world-traveling photographer told me. "Yesterday was my first opportunity and I was ecstatic."

(Side note: I understand the enthusiasm. The post I wrote about last season's show was about emotion and feeling.)

"Ann's label always brings the most elegant and eccentric of silhouettes," he continued. "The Ann Demeulemeester woman is strong, mysterious and sexy."

"To see yellows and greens splashed on the otherwise black palette was really refreshing; it shuts up the naysayers who like to poke and comment on how many 'different shades of black' they've just seen."

The color Katz Sinding mentions was definitely a bright, vivid and welcome shock. So were the feathers affixed to most of the citrus and earth-shaded looks.

I also sat near Nordstrom's vice president of designer apparel, Jennifer Wheeler, and considering that she and Katz Sinding have such distinct but intrinsically related points of view, I asked for her input as well. Not surprisingly, they dovetailed.

"The Demeulemeester customer is really sophisticated; she doesn't follow trends, she's true to who she is-and she's true to the darkly romantic look," Wheeler said. "Although it can be really dramatic on the runway, when the collection is off the runway, it's full of essential pieces. The tailoring, the blouses-they're really great for any wardrobe."
