After several seasons of mermaid and trumpet silhouette dominance, the princess wedding dress is back in a big way. Also referred to as a ballgown style, these wedding dresses feature voluminous skirts and romantic design. Flattering on most body types, these dresses are often thought of as highly traditional. However, the runways last month revealed trending details and modern translations. Here are 15 princess wedding dresses we think are particularly special.

Above, this wedding dress is spectacularly royal! Because this dress is so dramatic, go more demure with your accessories and hair. A simple updo, either with or without a veil, keeps the focus on the dress.

One of the major details in the 2016 collections are lace embroidered or embellished accents. Especially popular are flowers and petals awash in seas of tulle (above and below) to add dimension and femininity to the design.

Because the skirts are so full, you can add perceived height to your frame by selecting a dress with "vertical" embroidery, such as the ivy pattern running down the skirt of this dress (below) from the bodice.

When it comes to skirts with organza or tulle, one of the hottest trends is playing around with layers. The dress on the left (below) is full of long layers, while the one on the right uses cropped tiers throughout the skirt.

There's no reason you can't mix and match your trends! Combine a crop top with a princess skirt for the perfect beach wedding dress (above). Or take a cue from the runways and use bold, silvery feathers as your central detail on top of a full skirt (below).

Add a little sparkle to compete with your bridal glow by choosing a bodice with either metallic embroidery (above) or sequins (below). Again, this silhouette is already a scene-stealer, so choose one area to really stand out.

Of course, we all have our favorites. And the princess wedding dresses that have us head over heels are smooth, sleek, and very modern. The gathered bodice and accented cap sleeves on the simple gown below are minimalist and unique.

These two dresses are retro-inspired in a very Grace Kelly kind of way. Glamorous and elegant, they both embrace this traditional silhouette in a modern way, with a slight drop waist and pockets.

Another hot trend is intricate patterns. Put all of your wedding gown's fabric to good use by finding a design with geometric ruching (above) or embroidered flowers in blush and cream (below).
