Intimate Italian Destination Wedding in Petritoli | Fly Away Bride

It was Jennifer and Shawn's dream to get married in the charming hilltop town of Petritoli, a small town in the Marche region of Italy opposite Florence and Rome. They fell in love with Petritoli on a visit there, and decided it was the perfect place for their wedding- luckily Jennifer is a wedding planner herself which made organising the celebration so far from their home in Canada easier. We love that the couple included Italian traditions in their day where they could, such as a serenade by local musicians after their ceremony, an al fresco wedding dinner complete with gelato and a traditional Italian wedding cake. We also love these images by Heather Wilkinson because- how could you not?

From Jennifer: "We had visited Petritoli in Italy six months prior and completely fell in love. Traveling such a distance to get married was no easy feat, but as a planner myself, at least I was somewhat ahead of the game! We arrived a few days before our guests, met with our priest and the local planner to fine tune details. Then our 26 guests joined us for a week of absolute bliss! The inspiration for our day came from my ring, which is rose gold with an oval champagne peach sapphire & diamond halo. We wanted to include as many authentic Italian traditions as possible and also as many local suppliers as possible. Such things as the liner for our invitation - it was hand painted by a local Italian artist. The wedding day itself was right out of a fairytale, perfect weather and perfect setting. One of my favourite memories was sitting by the pool and hearing my future husband yell "I'm getting married today!" from the rooftop terrace of the building nearby. It was so sweet! After the ceremony we followed tradition and were greeted with local folk musicians in the street for a celebration. Some of the townspeople joined us as well. We then had locally made gelato served from an old fashioned ice cream cart, Italian bellinis and local foods while the folk musicians played on. During our unforgettable al fresco dinner, we enjoyed beef, handmade pasta, duck, panna cotta and traditional Italian wedding cake! We ate (and ate and ate) beside the landmark "three arches", which is a staple piece of architecture in the town. It was truly the most romantic event we have ever been a part of. As long as we live we will always have the memories that were made that day."
