Pantone Selects Rose Quartz & Serenity as the 2016 Colors of the Year

Pantone Selects Rose Quartz & Serenity as the 2016 Colors of the Year

When it comes to Pantone's picks for their featured color of the year, we admit that we aren't always thrilled. Some years have forecasted gorgeous hues, and others...well, not so much. But we were truly excited to see that they have selected two shades, Rose Quartz and Serenity. At first glance, it seems like (especially when paired together) they are colors more appropriate for a baby shower. However this soft, rosy pink and muted blue reflect a general sense of calm and peacefulness, which is something we wholeheartedly welcome for wedding planning. Plus, when you take a look at the whole palette that Pantone focused on, these two shades act as soothing neutrals when mixed with bolder hues.

Blue can be such a flattering color for a wide variety of skin tones and hair colors. Especially in this pale shade, it can look equally great on pale blondes and olive-skinned brunettes (above).

Sometimes pink gets a bad rap for its girly-girl connotations. But this pretty color can be so beautiful on a bridal party. If you have friends that aren't over the moon about having to buy a dress in this shade, look for cool details to entice them, such as Art Deco inspired beading (above) or a bodice featuring lace (below) or sequins.

Perhaps you want to keep this trend all to yourself? This stunning ombre gown blends rose into griege with stylish aplomb.

We also love modern pink accessories like this rose quartz and tassel pendant below.

This time of year always feels a bit chaotic (but don't get us wrong-we love us some hot cocoa and listening to crooner classics), so we would love getting one of the following wedding invitations in the mail. With their watercolor-inspired designs and using Pantone's soft colors, they feel tranquil and subdued.

Pink is a really easy color for flowers, so you have your pick from luscious roses to fluffy peonies. Below, this wedding paired a pale pink with a brighter hue to liven up the centerpieces.

You can also pair a pale pink rose with blue hydrangeas for a sweet combination (below, left). If you want to use Serenity on its own, add some white so that it has a chance to really pop. We adore this lightly checked table runner below topped with pale blue glassware (right).

Don't judge us, but when we first hear about Pantone's color choices, we instantly think about how we can incorporate it into our sweet tables (with Radiant Orchid this was not so easy). The hydrangea cupcakes and pale blue and pink macarons above are positively divine. More modern brides will love this rosy pink and white cake with its fetching hand-drawn herringbone pattern.
