Pantone Colours of The Year: Meet Rose Quartz & Serenity

Pantone Colours of The Year: Meet Rose Quartz & Serenity

via

Some people get really excited about the Oscar or Grammy nominations. Others are stoked for the NFL draft or transfer deadline day.

For us, it's the announcement of the Pantone Colour of the Year.

In 2014, it was Radiant Orchid. Last year, it was all things Marsala. But this year, the tend predictors at Pantone threw a curve ball. Choosing not one, but two Colours of the Year.

Introducing Rose Quartz and Serenity.

Two dreamy hues (that happen to be awesome for weddings!) and work just as beautifully together, as they do apart.

The Pantone Colour of the Year is always eagerly anticipated by fashion and interior designers, graphic artists, and event planners every year.

The chosen hue tends to inspire everything from runway collections to wallpaper choices, and of course, wedding colour palettes.

So while it doesn't mean you have to go all out pink and blue with your 2016 wedding, you may find this year's tones influencing your choice of stationery, or in the offering of bridesmaid's dresses you see in stores.

Last year's hue, Marsala was adopted more by grooms (think cool velvet burgundy jackets) and in decor, paired with luxe golds and rich greens.

But for all that was opulent about Marsala, this year's hues are light, airy, ethereal and feminine, which makes us think 2016 brides, in particular, are going to be head of heels for them.

Rose Quartz borrows from the big trend for blush weddings, but with rose gold undertones, it avoids falling into the realm of 'baby pink'. This means that although it's quite feminine and romantic, it's also grown-up, modern, elegant, and extremely versatile.

As for Serenity, well it's a colour that's hard to put your finger on. A dusky blue hue, it falls somewhere between a cornflower blue (which is really popular when paired with peachy tones) and a lilac purple. This makes it really fresh and pretty, without looking too stark or cold.

Including Rose Quartz & Serenity in Your Colour Palette

Whether you use them separately, or together, Rose Quartz and Serenity are versatile shades, that will pair up with a multitude of wedding styles and colour palettes, whether they're softening a modern monochrome palette, enhancing a vintage soiree, or adding a little elegance to a rustic setting.

As lavender shades sit right in the middle of these two hues, these tones go particularly well with both.

A soft cream will really lift the dusky feel of both colours and give it a soft yet bright polish.

While sage green tones in wood or foliage would pair particularly well with Rose Quartz or Serenity-coloured florals or fabrics.

As for metallics, we love the idea of incorporating copper or rose gold to bring out the blush pink tones in Rose Quartz, while silver will really enhance the steeliness in Serenity.
