Thinking about a New Zealand honeymoon? One of the most beautiful countries in the world, it is filled with unique sights and natural wonders. Here are 5 cities to consider visiting on your vacation!

Queenstown

When you want to get away from it all, Queenstown might just be your idea of New Zealand paradise. It has it all: mountain peaks, lakefront views, and vineyards galore. Indeed, as the area in which The Lord of the Rings trilogy was filmed, it definitely delivers on natural beauty. Make sure to plan a couple days to visit the diverse attractions, including local farms, Queenstown Gardens, and hiking to amazing lookouts. However, one of the most compelling reasons to honeymoon in Queenstown is its reasonable proximity to so many other beautiful destinations. Take a day trip to Milford Sound or Fjordland National Park to round out your stay!

Auckland

Located on the North Island, this harbor destination is the largest city in New Zealand. And although there are plenty of outdoor activities just outside the city, this honeymoon location is definitely for couples preferring urban delights! Go to the top of Sky Tower for a panoramic view of Auckland. If you are feeling extra adventurous, you can choose to clip in and walk around the edge of the tower in their "Sky Walk" or you can even bungee jump. Interested in New Zealand's diverse history? Take a tour at the Auckland Museum to learn more about the Maori from their extensive exhibits.

Napier

Architecture buffs will adore their stay in Napier! This relaxed coastal town on the eastern side of the North Island is filled with Art Deco-inspired buildings and brightly painted homes. Rent bikes and explore the city streets and the waterfront. The South Pacific is brimming with interesting aquatic life. See all that is under the sea in New Zealand's National Aquarium located in Napier. Right outside the city you will find plenty of tranquility in the many surrounding farms and fields (pictured above). Could you use a great glass of red after all of this tourist fun? Napier is also famous for its world-class vineyards, so make sure to stop by these wineries and sample their bounty!

Wanaka

Think of Wanaka as the Jackson Hole of New Zealand. An up and coming resort town, you can have an amazing honeymoon here during any season. During summer you can enjoy the lakes, and during winter you can ski its nearby wondrous slopes. One of Wanaka's most exciting attractions is their canyons. For safety, go on toured excursions and try your hand at this daring exploration! Once you're done with all of these outdoorsy endeavors, it's time to relax in one of the town's charming cafes and restaurants.

Taupo

Some of New Zealand's most spectacular landscapes are near Lake Taupo on the North Island. Hike up to Huka Falls to see the bright aqua cascades. On Lake Taupo not only can you find just about every water sport, but also plenty of geothermal-related activities such as hot springs and craters courtesy of the adjacent volcano. You can also kayak past an impressive collection of Maori rock carvings made by a local artist in the 1970s. Even though hiking trails are abundant in this area, we think the most remarkable views can be achieved via one of the many airplane and helicopter tours.
