Enchanting Costa Brava Wedding Video with Basilico Studio | Fly Away Bride

Xevi and Bibi married along the Costa Brava region of Spain at one of the most fun and touching celebrations we've seen. Both from Girona in Spain's very northeastern tip, the couple visited only one venue they found online, Hotel El Far, and knew immediately it was the one. Though they originally wanted a beach wedding, Bibi and Xevi decided the hotel's location on a cliff overlooking the sea was actually even better. Their enchanting Costa Brava wedding was captured superbly in this absolutely unmissable video by Basilico Studio.

HOW THEY MET

"To introduce ourselves, we are Bibiana and Xevi from Girona in Spain. We both studied medicine- Xevi has completed his medical speciality and I'm currently pursuing a PhD. We've been together since we were 23 after meeting in 2006- in the gym! We got engaged on a romantic getaway during dinner in Els Brancs Restaurant in Hotel Vistabella. Our adventure began there: we decided right away that we were going to get married that autumn. My parents were married on September 1 so it seemed a very good month. We set the date: September 6, 2014!

DECIDING ON THE DESTINATION

We knew from the beginning that we wanted something different: a celebration without topics and protocol. We always knew we wanted a BIG PARTY! A romantic one, with a lot of lovely details in a beautiful place, but mainly a big party! The first problem was to choose the place: we knew we wanted to be near the sea. After debating some options online and realising that getting married on a beach was very complicated ... we found the Far Hotel in San Sebastian. When we saw photos with that amazing view we fell instantly in love. We didn't get married on the beach, but the hotel located on a cliff above the sea gave us what we wanted. We visited that hotel only: it was love at first sight- the ceremony area was perfect, as was the little hotel with its nine rooms and beautiful sea view. The only thing we were going to sacrifice (because you can't have everything) was the outdoor dining- but even that came with an advantage of having one less problem to worry about: the weather forecast. So right away we said YES!

STYLE & THEME

We started to think about the theme of the wedding. After looking at Pinterest we went crazy and wanted everything: vintage, romantic, nautical, rural! We decided to be consistent and stick to a nautical theme. We started with the wedding logo designed by my sister and her husband who are really great designers. We used that logo for the invitations and had a rubber stamp made for all the other paper goods. For the invitations we wanted something very personal, fun and different: the result was one featuring four sides, where there was the logo, some funny phrases, the timing of the wedding and finally a picture of us on the back inviting to share photos on social networks under the hashtag #casamentxevibibi on our facebook page created for the event. We made some cardboard boxes to sent the invites in wrapped in cloth, with a few shells to give the maritime feel, and finally tied with twine. Everybody loved them. We did a whole 90 of them: our house looked like a craft room!

For my dress, after visiting a few sites without much success and a few small design boutiques I found YolanCris located in Sabadell. I was lookking for a romantic and a dress that enhanced the body without being extremely sexy. I chose the Lugano gown: it was love at first sight. The shoes I ended up getting in the same store because they were also comfortable and totally fit the style of dress. Another huge plus os that I can wear them again! My husband, he is a tall and good-looking guy, and he knew where to go: Hugo Boss. In just one day he had the whole look sorted!

THE BIG DAY

We wanted an "intimate" family wedding... but we have lot of family! So in the end we were about 150 people. We were at the venue's limit capacity. Everyone who was there were known and well-loved faces. Everything was decorated with nautical motifs. A giant anchor, candles, and we put sunglasses with our #XeviBibi for everyone in the dinner area. We set up a table on which guests could leave messages for us in a bottle. There were customised blackboards in different places, and finally the seating plan: a whopping 160 paper boats with nautical colors and each guest's name.

THE CEREMONY

When it was time for the ceremony, I had no idea what would happen! We had asked a mutual friend to marry us. He is a fun and imaginative guy and we didn't want anything boring (we had gotten married in a civil ceremony the day before), so we gave him complete freedom to do what he wanted. Xevi entered (I've seen videos and I've been told ) with to an animated Bruce Springsteen song: it was such a fun entry . My idea was quieter and entered with my father with the song "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole. It was a beautiful moment.

Four pirates on a cardboard boat disguised as Jack Sparrow with a parrot entered saying that they were lost. They dished out drinks while our friend Jordi began the ceremony with a mixture of laughter and tears. Afterwards came the speeches of Xevi's brother; Adrià and my sister Alice: I could not tell which we cried more at. It was so spectacular- it seemed they have done this all their lives! Then it was time for the rings and the surprises were not over yet. I had asked a friend of mine to bring the rings. Imagine my surprise when I saw my cat appear! This was something my husband had organised because I had mentioned it would be a shame that my pet wouldn't be there. We exited with a lively song and people threw kilos of confetti I had prepared myself in handmade bags stamped with sailor cord. Xevi and I then went for photos to a forest nearby: it was such a zen moment after the nerves and emotions and everything that had happened. Afterwards we returned to the terrace for the buffet of cheese, rice, ham, and an eternal assortment of delicious things. The weather was fantastic: there was no wind and we had a spectacular sunset. The entrance to the banquet was quite a show. We entered with the song: "We Come Running" and people were already in the party mood!

RECEPTION

Dinnertime was calm: we dined on Girona steak and skipped a cake; instead there was strawberry soup with mascarpone ice cream and fruit tart cupcakes. For the gifts, we spent a lot of time choosing the music for deliveries. To the parents and grandparents we gave our enlarged pre-wedding photos. For the next few friends that were thinking of getting married, we gifted them with cushions emblazoned with "Mr Mrs" with a mustache and lips. Xevi's brother got a photo album with plenty of childhood memories. I gave my bouquet to my sister as she had married a year before us in San Francisco, which we didn't get to attend.

After the reception the ceremony area was converted for the disco with a table with plenty of sugar candies and lots of goodies. Just when it looked like the surprises were over, we surprised everyone with a video: a same day edit, recorded between pre-wedding day (vocals) and pictures of the wedding (until the end of the ceremony) and released the same day, during the wedding time by Gustavo (working in one of the hotel rooms). The result was AMAZING. After that the party started: the Dj, Dj Frank, was so talented, getting everyone to dance for hours! We also had a photobooth area with props. The party lasted until 6 a.m the following day: the happiest day of our lives with a surprise ending. More than 30 kilos of coins of 5 and 10 cents as a gift from our fantastic friends. The wedding and all the good memories in this video would not have been possible without all the professionals who helped us. Our advice would be: enjoy the moment- it goes by too fast! "
